I would like to ask this question to those with intimate knowledge of the casino industry. I am a blackjack card counter who has been "backed offed" or "86'd" at almost every casino in Las Vegas . I would like to join the dark side and get a job at a casino, preferably in security (eye in the sky type job), or dealing blackjack or craps (I have been to school for both). Two questions:

1. Considering my history, will it even be possible for me to get such a job (i.e., when they do a background check, will I be automatically disqualified)?

2. If getting such a job is possible, what's the best way to go about getting one? I don't have any contacts, but would be willing to "grease the skids" if that is necessary.

Thanks for any input.

gonna be tough....especially if you have been put 'in the book'......things like that usually require suckin up to a surveillance boss and letting him get to kow you and trust that you wont "flip back" not gonna be easy.....

As far as 'greasin the skids' ...probably not.....doesn't work to well in surveillance....

Our Surv. dept here has had the same people in it for 21 years that I have been here.....

Thanks for the response, dynimagelv. Before making this post, I searched around this blog and it's clear you have the reputation of someone who is in the business and knows what he is talking about. I have not been in Vegas too long, but it is an incredibly frustrating town. Don't get me started on how casinos treat people who play a game according to the rules that the casino set up, but simply use their brains.

Let me ask this, Is there a place in a casino for someone with a degree from one of the best universities in the country and exceptional mathematical and analytical skills or do casino only want people who can count to 21 without taking off their shoes and pants.

I guess that's a rhetorical question.

If you've been kicked out for card counting your picture is in the black book. Add to that the fact that you want to bribe someone; shows you aren't very honest are you? Maybe you'd better try Atlantic City or maybe Dubai or someplace where there's a chance your past won't come back to bite you in the a**. But since you can't take responsibility for your previous actions you'll probably just do something else to get into trouble. Try the Wal-Mart in Peoria.

In the "black book"? Hardly. If he's been formally 86'd, he's likely in the "Griffin" book---- a far cry from the "black book".

There is nothing illegal, dishonest or unethical about card counting. It is simply using one's brain to keep track of cards, but those without brains don't know that. Bribes are a trickier question, but they are no different than the perhaps thousands of people who have gotten jobs in this town because of who they know instead of what they know.

mmmm Depends on Point of View....obviously if we in the Casino industry totally agreed with you there wouldn't be a black book......

Personal opinion....let everyone count cards as long as we can shuffle anytime we want to .

As far as BRIBES......well I wont even go there......my opinion of those that offer and accept bribes is far to low to put in polite terms.

Sorry. Lost my head. You're right. It's been a long time since I worked in a Casino but we had a book of mug shots of cheaters back in the analog days. I knew it wasn't THE Black Book. Didn't even know it had a name but the effect was to keep them out.

We get it. You are smarter than everyone else. We've never heard of card counting before in Las Vegas. Is that a new thing? Jeez.

From your post, maybe you didn't mean it this way, but you come across in print as smug, arrogant, and dishonest. It's a shame that you can't use your education and self proclaimed brilliance to make an honest living and take some responsibility for your own actions, which would include not doing wrong and thus not having to justify it.
