Americans waste a lot of money on education and the results are **** poor. It's undeniable.

I could go down the list and mark down everything the government does but shouldn't. I'm willing to bet that it's closer to 99.9% than it is to 90. There's very little the government should be doing.

And I notice you couldn't defend government spending.
Roads, police, fire, infrastructure, safety inspections, courts...I think that's more than 0.1% of what government spends. Add in schools and some medical care because sorry its a societal hazard to just ignore those. Or would you rather have uneducated poor kids and dying people out on the streets because you didn't feel like government should do anything about them?

Everyone can find something wasteful in government. Its generally something you don't think you need. If you live in Henderson, why should the government spend any money on building roads in North Las Vegas, right? If you fly once every decade, why should they build an airport? If you never have a fire in your house, well guess the fire department was a total waste was it not?

Unfortunately some things in society have costs and I'll gladly pay a share of them because I don't want to live in a third world country. I have spent plenty of time in them, nice enough people, hard working societies, but their lack of taxes lead to gross under investment in infrastructure and they end up totally lacking the systems which make life better. I may never use the court system, but knowing we have laws which can be applied in ways to keep the economy running is a comfort that people in many countries will never know because the courts are rigged and getting to a trial takes 20 years, if you even can get so lucky as to have one. I think I'll pay a few dollars a year out of my salary for the courts.

You already got your higher taxes, thanks to your big-spending Republican Governor, who presided over the biggest tax increase in Nevada history. The 2nd highest hike in taxes occurred under Gibbons, another Republican Governor.

Doesn't matter who's in office, once they get a hold of the checkbook, it's spend, spend, spend. Donald Trump is a good example of that!

It's quite foolish to assume that because someone doesn't support the dems that they support reps.

I did not vote for Trump. I've never voted for a republican. To me both of these parties are pure garbage. They both work together to screw we the people. I do not want either one anywhere near office.

Did you know that before the income tax we had roads, fire departments, infrastructure, and courts?

WOW right? America existed as a civilized country before 1913. Crazy, I know.

I'm 10000% for educating the masses. The problem is, our schools do not do a good job of that. We rank pretty low despite spending absurd amounts on each kid.
A far better solution would be to have pay schools.
Let people keep all their income. Let people keep their property tax. Let people choose what school to send their kids too.

Yes, the rich will get the best schools. And you know what? If you're jealous of that, get rich.
do the things the rich do to get rich and stop whining. Because even with the current system of socialized schools, guess what, the rich are still getting better education. They send their kids to private schools and then to the best colleges.

Instead of having a few select private schools, they should all be private. That puts the onus on the parents.

The fact is having the government do everything for us makes us dependent, lazy, and ignorant.
Being forced to make choices for ourselves, with all of our income intact means we'd have to be more responsible. Now, I know responsibility is a dirty word to the left, but I promise it's not bad.

I do not want the government handling anything but DEFENSE, the courts, and anything else the constitution says they are to do. I damn sure don't want them handling healthcare, education, finances, or anything else that impacts my life.

If they had never gotten into medicare, healthcare would be affordable. THEY made it unaffordable. THEY damn sure aren't going to make it affordable. Obamacare ring any bells?

I mean seriously, FDR spiked our federal debt 1,000% not exaggerating.
The government has been spending more than it takes in almost every single year of it's existence. What's really disturbing is how much it takes in.

These idiots aren't even responsible enough to not borrow money.

Seriously. They're spending 4.4 trillion dollars and only taking in 3.4 trillion.
1/4 of the total budget is borrowed.

If you make 30k a year, you should not be spending 40k a year. And you want these people in charge of us AND taking more money from us? Are you insane?

I predict "Business As Usual". It really doesn't matter which bunch of crooks are in charge. They're all pretty much the same.

Does anybody know if Las Vegas or the state of Nevada could adopt sanctuary status without a public vote?

Could happen - Extremely unlikely. We simply do not deal with the illegal alien proposition in that way. To a very large degree we simply ignore it. Note we have the highest percentage of illegal aliens of any major city.

If there is any problem resulting it would be in education but the overall problem of minority education likely buries it as a separate concern.

The municipal structure of Las Vegas also makes it unlikely. Clark County would be the only place where it would make any sense and the County Commission is unlikely to have any such interest. Maybe Chris G. but that is about it.

I'd rather see an increase to education funding without a tax increase -- increase education funding from existing state and local revenues. This leaves less money for other things, I know.

Thank you.

There's VERY little on that list that I agree with. There's a lot of redundant crap on the list.
