Anyone use maid service and / or live in helpers in Vegas? Where do you find reputable agency or individuals and what is the price range? One of the thing that drive us away from the SF bay area is the shortage of maid and live in helpers in our area (and cost of assistent living and nursing home). It is anywhere between $2500-3000 for a 6 days live in helpers to start and they are hard to come by. Hourly maid service in our area is anywhere between $20-30 an hour (and quality one are very hard to come by). My wife has a silent stroke a few years back and has real hard time keeping up with house chores (and refuse to let me help).. I would imagine that we will need help in that department sooner rather than later.

maid or assisted living helper?

a CNA might be what you want if wife needs "personal" aid in getting around, has BLS skills too if she gets injured or needs CPR or something. not that a CNA does maid duties...

I'd expect to pay a live in person more than $20-30/HR, you are after all paying for companionship too while you are out of the house, it would suck if she hated the person you hired even if the maid cleaned well.

A few of my mom's friends get 10-20 hours of personal aide assistance through a personal care agency. However, they have Medicaid because of some sort of disability that warrants the service.

There are different phases of getting older. It starts out as the household chores are getting harder, physical activies are getting harder to finish, so older folks start to downsize and eventually need to hire someone to do some clean up or cooking or more physically deman jobs around the house. As time go on, one of the partner become disable or need more helps to take care that the more healthy partner cannot provide. Things like moving a disable person to wheelchair. Monitoring the less healthy partner while the other one catch a nap. This is the time that they need to decide if the less healthy person need to go into assisted home or start hiring full time live in maid. None of this need a CNA or RN. $20-30 per hour is pretty ridiculous amount of money for this kind of work... I take that none of the people in your immediate circle are getting older and need assistant?
