Default Where to buy genuine Italian food products?

Hi

We are new in town (North Las Vegas) and my Italian husband is looking for an Italian store where he can buy imported tomatoes, pecorino, real Italian suasage, and all that good stuff. If anyone is familiar with Monte Carlo's in Burbank, that is where we used to go.

Distance is generally not an issue - we are used to traveling 20 minutes or more to get what we like.

Any tidbits appreciated. I know there are Italians here!

Diana

If distance is not an issue you may have to drive back down to Burbank and stock up. There is an Italian Deli on W. Sahara near Valley View called Montesano's where you'll find good Italian sausage. They have a good selection but there is no one place to get it all though. Montesano's have two pretty good restaurants also. Tomatoes on the West Coast, as well as most produce is a crime I've been crying about since I left the Ohio River Valley over 40 years ago. But you might try Whole Foods Market. They have good products and might even have some pretty good sausage but they are expensive as he**.

Montesano's website is pretty obnoxious but you can see what they have here: Montesano's Italian Restaurant - A little bit of Italy right here in Las Vegas

Minuto's on Tropicana and Jones is a good place.

The Siena deli (broken link)on Trop and Eastern is also very nice.

Yes, Montesano's is closed at Craig and Decatur..

You might also try Roma Deli, Spring Mountain Road, on the right, just east of Jones. And try Rocco's NY Deli, Buffalo, just South of Charleston on the right.

Did anyone hear that Montesano's closed the deli part of their store on W. Sahara/Valley View?

I thought I heard that somewhere...or perhaps it was their new location at Trop/Ft. Apache area?

BTW, dedenla...you're not going to find an old fashioned Italian Pork Store like you had in California, NY or Chicago, with the provolones and meats hanging from the ceiling and the smell of delicious-ness knocking you over when you enter the store....here in Las Vegas.

The above recommends all carry just the bare basic and not that much Italian stuff.

There's a new Montesano's at Trop & Ft. Apache? I'll have to try it. I think they had kind of ruined the one at Craig & Decatur when they took out the deli, but maybe the neighborhood changed. We used to walk there for dinner from Lone Mountain & Decatur. I thought they had the best linguine & claims but then we discovered Grape Street. Still like the friendly atmosphere of Montesano's though. They remembered us when we walked in. Nobody else does that.

I wish we had a place like this pastry shop in Boston's Little Italy. Mama Mia it's good. Welcome To Mike's Pastry! (index.html)
