Your post is self contradictory.

Flu vaccine will prevent flu caused by the strains included in the vaccine, not just lessen the duration, though it may do that if someone gets flu despite having the vaccine.

By protect I meant lessen the duration, effects, etc. Sorry my post was not clear.

Vitamin D is not alternative medicine by any means. Mainstream allopathic sources recognize it's effectiveness.

Should this question be moved? A significant portion of the people chiming in aren't even in Las Vegas. haha

Having COPD, if I get the flu it could very well be bye-bye, so I'm extra-extra cautious, dress warmly even when it's not cold out, wear a mask on windier days, and when I feel something is amiss I take some ampicillin. I've also got some stronger anti-biotics I just bought when down in Nogales last month. And, I've never had a flu shot ever!

Even when I lived in Las Vegas I always had a stash of anti-biotics around (most of them never used) thanks to the pharmacies in Tijuana. No flu this season or last season.

This is why antibiotics are losing their effectiveness. Some foolishly take them for a virus like influenza, for which antibiotics have no effect.

They got it wrong last year. They got it right this year. I did get the Asian flu years ago, but it wasn't that bad. Still, a ten minute walk to the local pharmacy and slight prick seems to be almost costless for an ounce of protection. If I project a future in which I didn't get the shot and got the flu, the economic cost of my regrets would be pretty high. So, whether I am counting the expected net benefits of getting the flu shot or the economic regrets of not getting the flu shot, I feel I've made a wise decision.

I always get the flu shot. Why wouldn't you if it's free?

I did get a viral infection last year that seemed like the flu, but it passed quickly: one day of fever and feeling awful, one day of vomiting and nausea, + two days to get back to normal. Given I was 61, not too bad if it really was the flu.

I have heard some people in the medical world say it's not a good idea to get it every year.

Not sure if they were talking about this, but worth a read

I’ve been getting shot of flu vaccine every year for the past 35 years and haven’t had the flu to the best of my knowledge. Now getting the adjunct vaccine.
