Sounds like a pure marketing effort.

Prices you see online are not remotely close to what you will pay for a dealer. Long story but it's likely the actualy cost to the HVAC business here in town is higher than the online price you're seeing since HVAC distributors use a regional pricing system. Almost all online HVAC retail sales are shipped from Florida since that has historically been the lowest regional pricing area.

Sounds like maybe your home warranty will no longer cover the unit??

How old is your current HVAC system?

Reality is the first thing to go on most A/C units is the contactor/relay or one of the capacitors.

Personally I would just wait until the unit dies and shop around. You need to compare part and labor warranty terms, all that stuff. Get three quotes and then you decide.

Apparently most units from the 1990's still use "R22", mine included. So they are offering a "deal" for existing customers.
I would require a 4 ton unit. They are offering a Lennox 4 ton unit delivered and installed for $6,096 -or- $76.00 a month for x many months {not sure}.

Of course they said their price was the best price and they encouraged me to look around. So I went online and saw that Lennox is the same brand Costco sells. I'm going there this weekend to get their price. I went online and saw some basic quotes for a 4 ton unit at around $3,200..NOT installed.

Right now my unit is working just fine, but it has had it's basic problems. Any suggestions on HVAC dealers?
I'm in Henderson.

Good thing I checked because my wife was pushing to sign the paperwork right then and there.
Costco's uses Sierra and I used them a year ago. I WOULDN'T recommend them. My 'smart' thermostat still doesn't work properly and I had them out a couple times. They were extremely cordial until the unit was in and paid for, then I had difficulty getting a returned call. The unit is a Lennox.

1989?

Just as a heads up, if you replace your unit with anything new your power bill will be significantly less in the summers (when the ac is going) since the existing unit is so old.

I had a 2000 unit that was on its last legs, I put in a new unit and the power bill dropped $80 a month.

I'd say your current unit has paid it's dues! That's awesome getting 30 years from a unit.

It’s also not only or even mainly about tons. You can get lots of things for relatively cheap, doesn’t mean they’ll be any good. My Trane is top of the line and it’s not because of tonnage, it’s because it’s a variable system down to 1% increments. If it needs to run at 67% capacity it can do that, or 12%, or whatever else, so you can buy a larger system without ever worrying about that being an issue. You can cool a place to 65 at night no matter what the temperature is outside with even halfway decent insulation. That’s what you’re really paying for and since I’m in my house most of every day, I think it’s money well spent!
