This message is for anyone in Hotel Management
I basically want to be in the hotel management business when I get older. I am 21 now, what would you recommend me doing now to work my way towards that future? Thanks for your time!

UNLV Hotel Management program. Even then don't expect to get a top tier position straight out of school. Be prepared to work your way up the ladder.

UNLESS, you work very hard and are in the top10%....those people are offered management positions upon graduation.
A degree doesn't buy you much anymore....I have three people workin in my reservations office that have degrees....they are res clerks....I am res manager and have no degree....started at the bottom

Um exactly. My wife gave up management at a property at Lake Las Vegas to be a concierge on the strip. Less headache and twice the money. She has a degree in Hotel Management from UNLV. She says you have to have a degree or at least ten years experience. Even then, someone younger with the degree may beat you out of the job.
To Damage, she graduated with high honors (top 3%) and still had to work her way up from a low position. So I agree, the degree means little in this town to some, but a whole bunch to others.

I can't say how much weight a hospitality degree holds on the strip or vegas ... but from my experience it probably isn't worth the time and money getting a hospitality degree. I worked in hotels for 5 years and everyone basically starts at the bottom no matter what. I worked with people who had degrees and never moved up because no one like them, and I worked with people with no degree who got promoted in under a year because they showed initiative and had good personalities. It's a very high turnover field, if you stick around and have the personality for it you will probably move up fairly quickly. My suggestion is get a front desk job and see if you want to do it long run.
