I want my long hot, alone time in a tub with music, candles and scents....ending with a semi pedicure to keep
my feet perfectly soft...I can shower/rinse off after if I need to.
I still have the shower for hot summer days to cool down 4 times a day after
out door activities to freshen up.
Older people won't be buying my house....I have only a shower with grab bars in the addition turned into a 700 ft apartment with 11 ft ceilings so feels bigger.

We put a deeper than standard tub in the hall bath just for that purpose. My wife really enjoys a long soak with a good book and a glass of wine, which the cabana boy refills as needed. Candles and scents on request.

A house with the same floor plan in our neighborhood still had the original master bath and sold at the same time for a little more money so there’s the proof that the bathroom renovation didn’t add much value even though it was well-done with high-end fixtures. We’re looking at spending a few thousand to make the bathroom more suited to our preference.

Overall we love pretty much everything else about the house and the shower wasn’t a dealbreaker but it’s not what I would choose if left to my own devices.
I don't like an open shower, either. I want a serious steam build-up.

I grew up in a house with a claw foot tub. That was a nice soaking tub.

A shower only counts as a 3/4 bath in some markets. A nice master has a big tub and a separate shower..and the tub rarely gets used. I wouldn't want to do something that would cause a lower appraisal at selling time.

It sounds like the bathroom Omega is remodeling only has a tub. A tub and separate shower is not pertinent.

I vote for a walk in shower. My wife would vote for a soaking tub. I may just have to lie to her when I redo mine lol.
But you asked
"Would removing the upstairs master bathtub and replacing it with a nice walk-in shower affect resale prices or significantly impact the number of potential buyers?"
No I do not think so.

I vote for a bath tub. As big as you want soaking tub. As long as the house still has one tub, then do what you want with the master. It would affect resale value if the people looking at the home has a female. We all want our tubs. Trying to soak in the bottom of the shower just doesn't work.

I have had too many uncomfortable bath tubs. Be sure to "audition" any tub you are considering. A good Jacuzzi style tub with jets is very relaxing and therapeutic. That said, I soak in a tub to relax, use no soap and take a shower to get clean. You can't get clean in a tub of your own dirty water. Just my opinion...
