Long story short, I got a money order from Western Union and have no idea where to cash it at. I went back to the Western Union branch where I got the money orders from and they said they could not cash in and suggested I go to bank. Both US Bank and Wells Fargo said they could not cash it. Wells Fargo recommended that I could create an account with them and put the money in but the cash would not be available until tomorrow, but I have my own bank account (USAA).

I called the Wal-Mart branch near my place and they said they do not cash Western Union money orders. Post office said they same thing (they only cash money orders from the post office).

The Post office recommended I try Smith's, which I have not tried yet.

So I go here and ask if anyone with experience has recommendations. I swear I regret purchasing a money order.....should have just taken my cash and put it into the account. I was just worried about the transaction fee.

USAA is a virtual bank. They have no physical location. Only way to deposit money is via USAA partnered ATMs (not a good idea if you have a ton of cash on you and you are standing outside), wire transfer, or via mobile app (if your phone is compatible).

That's why I said.....I regret buying the money order. It's hard to find a place that cashes it.

Does USAA have an app like the one Chase has? I can deposit a check by taking a picture.

Yes, but the problem is USAA keeps telling me it can't read the numbers at the bottom of the check. I've taken multiple pictures. Either my phone's camera sucks or I dunno.

Try “Rapid Cash” or one of the other check cashing places. They’ll charge you a fee, but they’ll cash it for you.
There are a ton of those places in LV. Google is your friend! Lol

Western Union won't cash their own stuff. How very naughty of them.

Went to Smith's. They didn't deny me but their system did. Gotta call the number they gave me.

Rapid Cash denied me. Said they only cash money orders that are bought from their store. You have to be specific when you say "other check cashing places".

Read my original post. The transaction fee to deposit the cash to my bank account would have been a lot. Thought I could get a money order, take a picture of it, then deposit it into my bank using their mobile app.

I googled it and Safeway will cash a Western Union money order. Call them first because not all of them do but some will.

Also I'd suggest open a credit union account. No fees with them. We have USAA, Chase, Bank of America and two credit union bank accounts to move money around for various things.
