V2 is right. The whole thing has gone to Hell in a hand basket in the past two years after being perfectly fine up until then. Jobs, housing, infrastructure, all of it shot since the Raiders' move was announced.

Must be one of those people who believe that all of Oakland is moving here because the Raiders are coming.

Come on. Utter silliness. The Sheriff just got on the media saying crime has dropped significantly. So we are being inundated in bad dudes but crime is going down? Exactly how does that work?

I'd be careful about putting yourself in a position to be dependent on these services. They're still new. They're losing money. There drivers seem to be making very little. They're still in a startup mode that really isn't financially sustainable. At some point they're either going to get much more expensive, or they're going to collapse.

Right now the taxi companies have lowered their prices to be competitive with uber/lyft but eventually those companies will have to raise their prices because the drivers are not making a sustainable wage and the taxi companies will raise their prices again.

I agree Uber and Lyft won't be in Las Vegas much longer. drivers are losing money doing it, taxies will be back with higher rates.

I was making $600 a week only doing 3 days.(20-25 hours). so I would not say the drivers aren't making money.

Downtown is another option.
Both possibilities but the areas others have mentioned are overall better areas by just about any measure.

That’s assuming that most drivers only drive. I haven’t met many like that. I’ve met many filling gaps in employments or who do other, higher paid freelance work or part time work and just do this to supplement.

Everyone knows the long term plan of Uber, are they not aware here?! There is ZERO plan to have the drivers be part of any sort of future, you guys know that right? Once self-driving cars are approved everywhere, drivers are gone, and they’ve paved the way for everyone already using the app and ecosystem and having fleets of cars in every city. Is it a long term, crazy plan? Sure, but most of these enormous companies seem to do that now days - take absolutely forever to turn a profit but then they dominate the space.

I think if I was a sheriff and wanted to look good I would also pull out a statistic that suggests crime is down. Or do you think it's better to come out and say crime has gotten out of control and I'm all out of ideas?

It is matter reported to the FBI every 6 months. Not impossible to cheat on but one would expect that the cheating would be consistent from year to year. And the best number was not a cheatable one. Homicides are a public record.

I would also note the some are simply unable to accept good news. Got to be cheating!
