I moved to Henderson and working on registering my vehicle. I don't think I need a smog check but wasn't sure. It says you don't need for 1st and 2nd registration. I have a 2019 Acura RDX that I got in June 2018 so this would technically be my 3rd registration for the car, but the car is only 14 months old and a 2019 model year.

I figured they aren't too expensive if I get one and don't need it rather than showing up and then I can't register the car without one. Anyone have experience with this?

What does your renewal say? That’s a box for smog required. Y/n

I don't have a renewal, I just moved to Nevada and this is the first time I am registering this vehicle here. Previously registered in NJ.

This is from the Nevada DMV website: "Emission Inspections
Smog checks are required on most gasoline and diesel powered cars and trucks, 1968 and newer, based in most areas of Las Vegas and Reno. Exemptions include new vehicles on their first and second registration, hybrids for the first five model years, diesel vehicles with a manufacturers gross vehicle weight rating over 14,000 pounds, motorcycles and mopeds." (Source: https://dmvnv.com/nvregreq.htm).

You might want to send them an e-mail via this link to confirm whether you need a smog check in your situation since the car was not purchased in Nevada: https://dmvnv.com/contact_us.asp. My experience is that they tend to respond fairly quickly to e-mail inquiries.

I can’t say for sure because it’s a newer car but I’m pretty sure you need one as mentioned above.

For $20 bucks if you have to go into DMV it’s going to save you time, rather than find out you need one and once your there and have to leave to get one. You have an OBD so it should be a quick check. If your check engine light is on that changes things. Has to be fixed before you can register.

Yeah, it's cheap enough that I would rather just do it then show up to register and not be able to do it.

in that case, I believe that you are required to get the smog test.
