For those of you who subscribe to DirecTV, I'm sure you're aware that channel 8 has been blocked since early July. With football season around the corner, I couldn't wait any longer for DTV and Nexstar to settle their dispute. I called DTV to complain and see what's up. I took them up on their offer to send a free digital antenna that allows me to receive all local over-the-air channels through my receiver. It arrived the next day. The antenna is small, setup is easy, and it works great. Also be sure to ask for credit for missed service - they gave me $30.

even with amplified antenna, its sometimes very difficult to hone in KLAS from where I live in centennial hills (also, main tv location is in interior room and cannot place antenna in or near window ). pretty finicky signal. even when i can get it , it can be very pixelated. not ideal watching conditions.

FWIW, I live roughly 6 miles due south of the airport. Like you, my main receiver is not near a window, so I place it on an interior wall. I wasn't receiving KLAS at all on initial setup. I then placed the antenna on a different wall (90 degrees from the original placement). It's been working like a champ ever since.

Good luck. I hope you can find a solution that works for you.

You did great with them! The only problem (well two) is any outside disturbance like a running motor, or electrical and the TV goes hazy with the digital antenna. The other problem was the position of the antenna... two days later you had to move it to another position, play with it until you got the channel to come back in. But either way, this solution, it solves your problem

Who cares about football? I want them to broadcast Opera & The Symphony. And political commercials. Imagine a channel dedicated to nothing but political ads on TV. No regularly scheduled shows or infomercials; just political ads.

I found the best location for our "flat" antenna in the living room to be laying horizontally on top of a 6 foot tall pier.

Who knew?

The downside is you can't record TV from this type of system without Roku or it's ilk because it's illegal in the U.S. and Canada. At least that's what I gathered from a quick bit of research.

I can record over-the-air broadcasts through my DTV receiver. The antenna that DTV sent to me connects to my main receiver, so I have full functionality of OTA broadcasts like I do for other channels in my package. No special setup or hacks required.

We chose Dish TV over Directv because they didn't carry the Pac-12 Network. As far as I know they still don't, and we like Dish over and above that.

I have Directv and NFL Sunday Ticket. If a game is broadcast locally then Sunday Ticket can't carry it which means there will be games that I can't see even though I am paying $300 for Sunday Ticket. I spoke to Directv and they offered me nothing except that they felt my pain. The only reason I have Directv is for NFL Sunday Ticket which they have an exclusive on forever so it is time to dump Directv.
