from what i've seen from a lot of casino employees, the service left a lot to be desired. you'd think they'd be ready and willing to hire those who could potentially make them a lot more money.
There are presently many, many "CASINO" jobs available. Lots of "casino" jobs in security, pit clerks, cashiers' cage, etc. at almost every property. If the term "casino" job actually means "resort" jobs----then there are many, many more. However, if one from another locale expects to be hired in the top 10% or, so of LV "gaming" positions they better have very strong references, ie; department heads and such. Not to worry, as in the next 2 1/2 years or so, the Encore, City Center, Echelon, Fountainbleu, etc will open and create a huge job market. New properties to open seem to be very receptive to out-of-state applicants, and pehaps, even have a "quota" in this area. Landing a "big" job at an already established property is most difficult.

Exactly what job did you apply for? One that perhaps requires written correspondence? If so, don't expect an offer anytime soon. However, the CCSD may show interest in your desire for employment.

This was a really good post, and good advice. So often, the newbies come here and think they're going to land the dream job, when in fact, they are really not quite qualified to do so.

Experience, reccommendation and a history of stability mean a lot in securing high level gaming positions right off the bat...

Not my opinion, but, LV is still regarded as the gaming "mecca" of the world. Could, one with, say 5 years experience at job "X" in LV get hired at the same job in Mississippi quickly-yes--could one with 5 years experience at job "X" in Mississippi be hired quickly in LV-- NO.

Ummm...I don't know about that Greg. But I do agree that LV is the gaming capitol....there's no question about it.

OK. you seem to like entertainment. I'm entertainer director for the Boyd Group. My choices for lounge entertainment are a 5 piece group from a two year run at Bally's AC, or the same from a two year run at the Ramada Inn, Butte, Montana. Who will get hired?

Well, that is true. But don't forget that the biggest complaint amongst the newly transplanted is that these type jobs are low paying and you can't live in Las Vegas on those wages.

The entire service industry in LV provides a climate far superior to anywhere in the USA. LV is "tip earners" HEAVEN----no if, ands, or butts. If newbies choose to work in a non-tip job of minimum wage--------well.
