National Emergency.... pandemic.... who cares! Our superintendent isn't fazed by what every other major city outside of NYC has done.

Do not exaggerate. Many of the big school systems have shut down but not all by a long shot.

I would personally agree with you that we should follow the lead of LA and SD and shut down. But that may well occur in the next few days...so it may not be a big deal.

I think open or closed a lot of parents are going to keep their kids at home because they don't want to risk them getting infected. Hopefully it doesn't spread into the school system and this just blows over and everyone can just go back to "normal life"

Every major city? Not even close. Should they? Sure. No need to make things up.

Quote:
All but a handful of the nation’s 30 largest school systems are closed next week because of the virus.

Nevada’s Clark County, which is the fifth-largest district in the country, remains open as does Hawaii, the 12th-largest. Dallas, which is No. 16, is currently closed because of its previously scheduled spring break.

That leaves just one other district: New York City, which serves 1.1 million children.

My lifelong friend is a Vice Principal/AD in Richmond. They are off 2 weeks, come back a week, then off for Spring Break.

Absolutely stupid. If you're going to close, close the 4 weeks. There is a CDC report talking about short-term closures do nothing to stop the spread either and recommend ~8 week closure.

Hard to ignore when you see a list like that. Thank you OP. I don't have any kids, but if I did, I would not be sending them to school right now.

Just keep your kids home if you feel strongly that they shouldn't go. My kid didn't want to Friday, I let her stay home.
