There seem to be plenty of nice areas in town with parks either within walking/biking distance. Schools can be a different story. When I moved here last year we narrowed down our choices by school, neighborhood and the kind of house we desired. When checking out the school's accountability report, make sure you read the last page. Check out the parental percentage on parents attending conferences and mentions about the school's PTA. School's with more parental involvement generally test better. Check out their website,
Clark County School District Do you want your kids in a nine month school verses the 12 month track system? Middle and high school are only on the 9 month schedule.
When we started looking we were 100% sure we wanted to live in the Green Valley area. We ended up in Summerlin and I am extremely happy with our decision. Our realtor lives in Alliante and she loves it up there. I've only heard nice things about up there. Their schools haven't all tested well, but I do not think they have been around that long.
I used Zip Realty's interactive map when looking for homes. Most user friendly site out there. Much better than realtor.com

My husband was out here for 5 months before the kids and I followed. He probably saw well over 100 homes until we found the one for us. I probably over researched, but I believe you should always know what you are getting into before you get there. If you can believe it, I already had my son enrolled in a new Den for Cub Scouts before we arrived and was a board member for the next school year for the PTA within a week of arriving.
As for zipcodes, I liked these the most: 89074, 89012, 89117,89135, 89134, 89144, 89145, 89052, 89129, 89149.
