I know this is a big stretch but, can anyone give advice about where to meet/what to do if your living in Las Vegas for the summer and only 20 years old?

I'll be taking courses at UNLV but I have heard the social scene there is limited since most kids are commuters. Is this true? Has anyone taken courses there during the summer and know how the social scene is? Or have any other ideas about where to meet other people that aren't in high school, or at bar/club? Maybe people that are into film, tv, comedy, theater? Thanks!

Check out the student union. I'm sure even during the summer there are some events posted, or some sort of activities going on.

Other than that, you can always try meetup.com. Someone else might have more information, but I seem to recall an 18 and over club somewhere out in Henderson.

Or you can always get involved and volunteer with some sort of organization/cause.

Actually, many of the students live on campus. Freshmen are required to. If you don't mind freshmen, then check out the halls.

I would agree with checking out the various groups at the free http://www.meetup.com/cities/us/nv/las_vegas/
There are hundreds of groups and activities of all kinds.

Our tennis group, for instance, now has over 180 members. There are tennis meetups (mostly doubles) almost every day in both the southeast and southwest parts of the valley.

BTW, our group is looking for an assistant organizer to get local tennis meetups started in the northwest part of the valley.
It takes very little time and is relatively simple to do.

Hmmm... I moved out here when I was 23 and had a blast, but I spent a lot of time hanging out in the gay bars. Im not sure what I would have done if I was under 21!

I guess hang out with other coeds who are into the same extracuricular stuff you are. Talk to some of your peers you attend classes with. If your taking fine/professional arts classes, they are probably into the same scene.

Just because they commute does not mean they are not nearby. Most "commute" 5-10 miles to get to UNLV. Just means they live off campus.
