You can't really rebuild it. I mean you can build something else and call it the Mt Charleston Lodge, but that place was old and had character.

I recall going up there once and talking to one of the staff about how I like the old building and they told me something about the sprinkler system and how the place was basically falling apart.

I'll miss the old place, went up there a lot. Great food, beer, views. Fun times. Looking Forward to the new place.

I wonder how the fire started. I've only been up there a few times, but it sure was enjoyable.

  • The lodge would be built around 1915, initially called the Charleston Park Lodge, and a casino was later added.
  • By 1948, the Mt. Charleston Lodge included a rustic 25-room lodge and 13 cottages, and was owned by the owners of the Frontier casino in Las Vegas.
  • A fire destroyed the Mt. Charleston Lodge on December 28, 1961. It took firefighters from Las Vegas more than an hour to reach the site, and a fire station was later built in the Mount Charleston area to help stop any future fires.
  • On September 17, 2021, at approximately 4:45 a.m., a large fire destroyed the Mt. Charleston Lodge again. None of the adjacent cabins were damaged in the fire. Firefighters deemed the lodge a total loss, and believed that the fire originated in the dining area. The Ellis family plans to rebuild the lodge.
