I understand that even military people who are temporary residents of Nevada have to get Nevada license plates and licenses. Why? I just got new plates from Maryland. Ugh.. On the positive side, I heard that residents sometimes get discounts at stores etc. Anyone have any info on this area?
thanks

yea the black las vegas sign plates do look good. also, one good thing here is if your front bumper doesnt have the plate holes you dont have to put it on. in cali, you get hassled every time by the fuzz if you dont have a front plate on.

also, just get the plates. its pretty easy and quick. compared to the dmv's in cali, the ones here seem so much more efficient. theres long lines but they go quick too.

Not everyone is that rude. Go here and read up on everything you need to know: NV Driver License Information for Military

Yes many stores and some restaurants do offer military discounts, usually the same discount that is offered to Seniors, about 15%. This is the case more so the closer you get to Nellis. But many businesses in that area are not too nice or safe of an area.

There are a lot of places that have local discounts, but I can't think of any at the moment.

Whats up with these flat license plates they have here now? They look fake and at night, with glare from head lights, are hard to read. I read that they are cheaper to manufacture. Why did we not get a reduction on our DMV fees?

Active duty military, their spouse, and any children can use their home state's driver license while stationed in Nevada. However, if your spouse, child, and/or yourself takes a non military job while stationed here you must get a Nevada license.

I have found it easier to just go ahead and change over to whatever state you are stationed in, it usually isn't to difficult (most places just have you take an eye exam and maybe a written test at worse when you surrender your out of state license) and the first time a police officer asks for your drivers license you don't have to do the whole, but I am military and don't need a <insert state> license conversation.
