The fact of the matter is that a lot of the stats I rep are right from the local news stations and I cant remember where they get or quote from but that is OK. The fact of the matter is that by most standards Las Vegas is viewed as a city of low morality and low wages and we have been Californicated for that matter as well. This city is slowly becoming a toilet, the big boom is over and it is not going to come back as well as the fact that people are leaving here as quickly as they came. I have never felt a real sense of community in this place like I have in others. It is a town of illusion and that my friends is a fact. You can have it! I am outta here!

Its a nice fact that we can just pick up and move if you hate a place. I have seen many people do the same from Detroit, MI. I hope you can find happiness somewhere else and fit in. There is no perfect city, but you have to find one that fits your needs and Las Vegas fits the needs of a lot of people and it doesn't for some.

What does this mean? "Las Vegas is viewed as a city of low morality and low wages and we have been Californicated for that matter as well"

Does that mean that Californians have a low sense of morality and low wages? or is it the California Culture here? I'm from CA and they look at themselves as of High Morality and High Wages.

What I mean is that whenever and where ever large amounts of people from the Repubic of California move into a location it is only a matter of time until the greed sets in and the real estate goes up and the general cost of living in the area goes up. What is even worse than that is the fact that when large amounts of people from Cali move anywhere it will only be a matter of time before their liberal politics and ideals make a location suffer. ie: Cali was one of if not the first state in the US to have a smoking ban and now twenty odd years later the bans have spread all over the US cause Cali did it. I mean for crying out loud when in all the years that Vegas (the countries most smokin city) gets a Cali style smoking ban? Cali style stop light camera's? guess what is next???.....toll roads like in San Diego! So I am sorry if that sentence confused you! Vegas is a city of low morality and that is a fact that cannot be disputed. Californicated, well just ask others who live in say Santa Fe NM, Jackson Hole WY, Anchorage AL which they now call Los Anchorage! Austin TX, now called Los Austin and the list goes on and on! Cali can have their smoking bans and gun bans and all the other bans that curtain one's life. Believe me I have lived in many places in the US and Cali and people from Cali are now wanted! Remember so many years ago in Seattle when business and people were putting up signs to the effect of "Californians go home." Remember those dayz?

I lived in Anchorage, AK for almost three years (left in March 2006) and I never heard of it being called Los Anchorage. For that matter I don't remember hearing about a lot of Californians moving into the city either. Mostly we had folks from Seattle, Portland, and for some strange reason Hawaiians moving into the city.

I have also lived in a number of different cities: Colorado Springs, CO Vacaville, CA Dayton, OH Anchorage, AK and currently Honolulu, HI and I have to say that Las Vegas well North Las Vegas was were we picked as our new home after retirement. Why? Because it offered the things we needed in a city, and has Nevada in general is friendly to disabled veterans and retired veterans (I'm disabled military, my wife retires after 21 years next April). I am sure I can find things wrong with Las Vegas, but then again I found stuff in every single city I have lived in to complain about. Life is about making the best of everything and if you are in a situation that is to difficult, make a change. So instead of slamming Las Vegas for all the things you hate, why don't you just find a new place to live and let the rest of us have some peace.

Oh, and anyone is interested in how I view all those cities I lived in, here is my rankings from best to worse:

1. Vacaville, CA (nice small city, low crime at least when we were there)
2. Colorado Springs, CO (lovely city, not well laid out and the weather was strange)
3. Anchorage, AK (Great place... if you like it cold. Miss the views)
4. Honolulu, HI (To crowded, to expensive, and racism is becoming a problem)
5. Dayton, OH (Filthy crime ridden hell hole, you couldn't pay me to go back!)

So this is really a rant about the California mentality and not Las Vegas? So I guess your not moving a place where there a lot of ex-cal pats right?

Las Vegas is like any other city in America - if you can't find a way to make much money, you are going to be living next to and rubbing elbows with some pretty unsavory characters. If you can make money, there are things here that are as good as any other place in the country has to offer.

It seems like an awful lot of people move plan to move to Las Vegas thinking some sort of magic financial arbitrage will take place, allowing them to consume more than they produce in a way they couldn't get away with in other parts of the country. Look at all of the posts here asking if the "Happy Acres Crack Den" is a nice apartment complex - they picked it off the Internet because it was cheap and close to the Strip...and by the way, they are moving in on Thursday.

The myth dies hard, but when it fails, they get really bitter - Las Vegas was their last hope. Then it all becomes the fault of Californians who drove up the prices or gang members who moved into the neighborhood or big casino owners who promised a boom that didn't materialize - anyone but themselves.

You and I must have very different ideas about the definition of fact. My definition of fact is a statement or statistic that can be proven via empirical data and statistical evidence. It sounds to me like you are confusing opinion and perception with fact. You are entitled to your opinion and I respect your opinion. What I don't respect is you trying to pass your opinion off as fact and backing it up with outrageous claims about this city's rankings on certain subjects without the evidence to back it up. I've already disproven multiple claims that you've made, and instead of acknowledging that you make excuses (but I saw it on the news) and change the subject.

Just so you know that I am objective and not necessarily defending the city but actually just trying to point out your inaccuracy, I will point out a negative that you failed to mention that is actually true. According to this link, Nevada leads the country in methamphetamine use. Las Vegas Now | Nevada Leads Country in Methamphetamine Use

In conclusion, noone can take your opinion away from you and you are entitled to vent and share your opinion with others. Just don't present it as fact when it is clearly not.

You know if you like to party and drink and gamble and eat at buffets thats great, but other than that this place is yucksville! No culture at all! I came here like everyone else.........work! I have never been unemployed here! if you are working class then get ready to work and not make enough to buy a house. Average/median income is 54k and housing at its peak was 7x that much so good luck. if you are loaded and/or retiring and like to golf this is the place for you. You can stay in your little sheltered gated communites and never have to come outside to the real vegas if that is your hearts desire. Welcome to the countries fourth most dangerous metropolitan area. so instead of writing forever I will just list the things that one should consider before coming here.
1. one of the worst school districts in the country with one of the highest dropout rates
2. one of the highest teen smoking and drug use rates in the nation
3. one of the highest teen auto accident rates in the country.
4. one of the highest teen prostitution rates in the country.
5. well over 24 sex offenders arrested in the school district in a 3 to five year span if memory serves.
6. one of the highest home invasion rates in the southwest.
7. one of the nations largest latino gang populations. (ms13)
If you were to watch the local news here you would find that this city is alwayz at the top of the worst list and on the bottom of the best list. I dont want to sound totally negative, but if you have a family and are considering coming here you better look into that education and some of the other factors listed above. If you want to live the hi life this is the place to be as Vegas loves people with lotz of expendable income. If you are from a city of culture ie the east coast and midwest and even the souths larger more unique cities you might not find this place to your liking. Good Luck!
Vile tripe by another hater. These folk come up with these lists that attempt to compound some minor fact into a world class deal...

For instance....MS13. That is a Central American gang. Sure there are likely members here. But a big deal?

"We have not seen them (MS-13 members) in large numbers here locally," said Las Vegas police Capt. Al Salinas, head of the department's gang unit.

Sure CCSD could stand improvement. But it ranks relatively well among large school districts. The good schools in the system are the same as any large city.

Teen prostitution does create a problem in Las Vegas. That problem is mostly returning the kids to where they came from.

Californias are a large group that comes to Las Vegas. But they are only a small part to the overall inflow. More people from the midwest then from CA...but do we hear complaints about midwestcation?

Those new to Las Vegas should ignore these mental drolls from the unknowing. If there are no backed up facts there is no content. Just the ravings of some poor soul who lost his way and thinks it was because of Las Vegas.
