I'm a hard core city stat dork and get frustrated trying to find accurate stats for this stuff, especially comparing different figures from different city agencies and news articles. Anyway, I didn't find an answer to your murder question but did find this very interesting page Clark County Homicide Report Reports From the Field - Clark County Coroner Michael Murphy

Notice you can click on each homicide (I of course am reading every one that happened near where I live... juicy) and see what the incident was.

Pretty even spread location wise so fat this year, with inevitable groupings by downtown and NE. Notice the entire area SE of the I-15 and 215 has only one so far (and that one was a cop shooting), certainly supports the popular notion that this is a particularly safe part of town.

if each figure represents 1 homicide, that would equal 39... what is the current population? estimate is fine... i think its 2 million but i may be mistaken

I don't know the numbers but it seems to me that per capita homicides are way down from what they used to be. It seems to me that in the past 44 years we have always averaged about three a week in the metro area, but we went from 180,000 to 2 million population in that time. I may be way off so I'd like to see some stats on that. It also seems to me that cop killings are way up...which may not necessarily be a bad thing.
