Want to have fun, make a few bucks, and play low limits with other amateurs, not get steamrolled by a bunch of pros playing no limit.

I've played quite a bit at Indian casinos in the NW, but only poker tables I've played in LV were at Bally's. They didn't even have a poker room at the time, but they did have some low limit tables.

Most of the casinos have either 2-4, 3-6, or 4-8 available. I often play at the Mirage, as well as the Sahara. Both are nice rooms, although the games at the Mirage tend to be tougher. Quite a few locals play there, and some of them are quite good.

The Excalibur used to advertise "kitchen table poker" and perhaps they still do. I haven't played there in some time (too far to drive), but maybe someone who has will chime in. A few years back their room offered exactly what you are looking for.

Do not play at the Venetian. Their games can get very serious, and they have only a small number of limit games.

I haven't been there in a while, but most of the downtown casinos had low limits available, and, despite the locals, the games weren't too tough.

If you have a car, you could try Sam's Town, or any of the outlying Station Casinos. I have played recently at both Red Rock and Santa Fe, and found both to have reasonable levels of competition as well as nice rooms (Had my best day ever at Red Rock a few months ago in a 4-8 game).

There are other places, I'm sure, but I can only report on where I've played.

Hope that helps.

I play 1-2 NL at either the Santa Fe or Red Rock Station. Usually only locals playing, so it's quite friendly for the most part. Buy in for $100, play conservatively, you will have a good time and may walk out of there with a few bucks. I usually a least double up, but I do not play tight and go in there ready to lose. $100 can last you 3-4 hours easily if you are halfway decent and do not try and bully the table. I know you asked about limit but I have zero experience with limit games. No limit can be fun and if played correctly will not burn a hole in your pocket.

I like The Orleans allot. They are not strict about every hand motion and whatnot that can make many other big property rooms intimidating and fun stifling. There is even a saying among some of the folks that play there allot that "what goes on at The Orleans wouldn't be allowed to happen anywhere else". The 2-4 limit usually has a couple tables going, total old timer land, and you'll see the same faces day after day. Other tables have a mixed crowd. On the whole most tables are very friendly and have locals who are just kicking back with a beer and not trying to re-invent the game of poker like allot of the hard cases you'll see at the strip joints. I would avoid the Omaha tables, you always hear people fighting over there and the poker dealers there will readily admit that Omaha players are the most ornery sons a ******* around.

My only gripe there is that some older folks that are obviously there as much to fill up their comp cards than play will walk away from the table for hours, leaving their stack behind and chewing up a seat. Sometimes there will be three seats being wasted like this, and since it's so laid back there no one busts them out on the one hour rule.

Pretty friendly at South Point too, but the caliber of player seemed better there so I avoid it (plus it's farther from my house).

For me, the biggest bang for the buck are the NL tournaments. Sahara's is only like 40 bucks or so, and they have them like 4 times a day. Unless you get really unlucky or play foolishly, you should last a couple of hours for sure.

Thanks for the pointers. Red Rock is on the other side of town from me, but maybe it will be a good excuse to finally get over there. The kitchen table game at Excalibur sounds great,I'll look into that for sure. Thanks for the tip on checking out the local Stations as well as Sahara and Mirage.

I did a search on Live.com for Excalibur kitchen table poker and actually came up with a good review of the Excalibur poker room that was very informative. The site has reviews of a ton of poker rooms and is at:

Are you guys talking about poker or Texas Hold'em? I'd love to get back to playing poker but I don't consider Hold'em poker. Too much gambling on the come. I don't see the skill in it. A zillion years ago I shilled for Low Ball Art at the Union Plaza, and for Johnny Moss at the Aladdin. That was fun and they played different games. Have never played Omaha except in home games with friends.
