We go to Vegas a lot for weekend vacations and only see the inside of the MGM and all the info we get on the city if appreciated from anyone who knows first hand. We personally have been ripped off 297.00 voucher right in the hotel while playing at a slot machine just by turning and someone cashing my husband out. That was in a nice hotel. So we want to know everything from anyone who knows.

Hola!

To the OP, I am probably one of those that you kicked in the ass with your steel toed boot. I lived in Las Vegas for about 20 months and did not like it at all.

Vegas is a very libertarian place. The laws on gambling, liquor, and prostitution is unheard of in any of the 49 states. Most places in the United States do not have 24 hour liquor laws or 24 hour bars, not even New York City, L.A., San Fran or anywhere else. It is the "fun" island in the middle of the desert. It is very easy to get addicted to the 24/7 type of lifestyle.

Some people like Vegas, some people do not. A famous person from somewhere else who came to Vegas and hurridly left was John Wayne Gacy, the worst serial killer in American history. The famous writer, the late Hunter S. Thompson had a low opinion of Vegas. I did not like it. It's a matter of opinion.

I don't really see that so much with the locals, though....

Mostly just the tourists.

Prostitution is illegal in Clark County. There are counties in NV where it is legal, but you are promoting inaccurate information by stating that Vegas has Libertarian leanings due to it's prostitution laws. Please try to be a little more accurate when pointing out what you don't like about Las Vegas. Furthermore, John Wayne Gacy's opinion on Vegas (or anything for that matter) carries very little weight with me. Hunter S. Thompson's carries a little more, but not much.

When I was moving here I was surprised at how many people thought prostitution was legal in Vegas. People actually argued with me about it. I think the poster above meant NV but I don't know.

I'm sure he did but alot of the reason Vegas gets such a bad rap is because of the perception that Vegas is "Sin City". The reason why many people think that is because of misinformation, spread either by people that have lived here very briefly or by people that visit that truly have no clue.

I suppose I really shouldn't care what outsiders think of Vegas. I just think it doesn't get a fair shake from many and as a local I feel the need to clarify any incorrect statements, whether they be due to ignorance or just a mistake.

I'm no holy roller, but do believe in Christ and believe the scriptures. And it has crossed my mind a time or two about living on the outskirts of 'sin city'.

Nellis -you can't get any farther North or East than this.
As a moderate Christian, I think God has more important things to worry about then whether or not you live adjacent to <gasp> Las Vegas! This should be obvious to you, but not everyone that visits or works in Vegas is evil or destined for eternal damnation. I think you know that trying to be a humane, compassionate, and good person is most important. Think about that during your next poker hand....
