Default love it or hate it

Hiya,

When I was on my last trip to Vegas last month, hubby and I got out and about.. E.G Summerlin, Henderson, Green Valley. I was very impressed with the community's and was wondering what's hot and what's not.

What do you all love about Vegas?

What do you hate about Vegas?

What's the Best thing you have ever done in LV

What are you going to do next.. and why?

What's up and coming, things to get excited about?

GinnyGin x

What do you all love about Vegas?

The sense that it is the last place left in America where things can actually get done without being strangled by a million yards of red tape. If someone had proposed a CityCenter in San Francisco at the same time MGM unveiled the proposal in Vegas, they would still be five years away from completing the environmental impact studies.

What do you hate about Vegas?

Too much traffic and too many of L.A.'s violent criminals have taken refuge here. The wind is the biggest weather annoyance - more so for me than the heat.

What's the best thing you have ever done in LV?

Move here - even though my work still keeps me on the road more than I like.

What are you going to do next.. and why?

Move here full-time.

What's up and coming, things to get excited about?

The Fontainebleau and CityCenter openings late next year are going to be big.

GinnyGin,

Great questions.

What do you all love about Vegas?
The weather, low taxes, friendly people, the "can-do" attitude, the energy of the city.

What do you hate about Vegas?
Development Services (Building Department). Anyone who has gone through the permit process as an owner-builder will understand why.
People who move here, then try to change it.
I prefer to think of the wind as a worthy opponent in the ongoing game of "Keep the patio furniture out of the pool."

What's the Best thing you have ever done in LV?
Gone skydiving in Jean, NV.

What are you going to do next.. and why?
Some friends and I are talking about trying our hand at prospecting. Probably won't get rich, but it should be a great way to explore the countryside (I love the desert).

What's up and coming, things to get excited about?
Hard to limit that to a small number. I haven't come close to exploring all the surrounding areas, or the everything in the city itself, for that matter. One thin about Las Vegas that I really like, is there is always something new to try.

After five years here, I'm fascinated by the contrasts.

Sometimes it's like a small town sometimes (We know all our neighbors and high school sports are covered on TV).

Sometimes like the biggest city in the world (more than $40 billion in construction at the moment, and lots of heavy traffic).

And sometimes like the world's greatest fantasy (coming out of Phantom a few weeks ago to see a pirate ship battle going on across the street!).

Anyway, glad to hear you like our adopted home town.

What do you all love about Vegas?

Beautiful mountain scenery, including some excellent sunsets. Mild winters. No state income tax. The city's constant desire to improve. Lots of really nice residential areas. And once you get off the strip, there's relatively little traffic (well - compared to cities like LA, Chicago, and Phoenix).

What do you hate about Vegas?

Wind, wind, wind! And more events for locals would be nice (this category is lacking a little).

What's the best thing you have ever done in LV?

Hiking in Mount Charleston.

What are you going to do next.. and why?

I want to see Phantom of the Opera. I still haven't yet.

What's up and coming, things to get excited about?

I'm excited for the new shopping center to open across the street from Boca Park.

Default Wind

You are all saying how the wind is bad. What is the normal MPH for wind there?
Curious, because I'm in Colorado Springs and at times it can hit 65 MPH...Thanks

It's not just the speed of the wind here in Vegas, but it is also about what is IN the wind. With all of the construction that takes place, the air is constantly dirty and there are often air advisories. To make matters even worse, we have almost no rain which would normally knock down the dust. It's not a stretch to say that the wind gusts 20+ mph 2-3 days per week and can get over the 50mph mark more often that I would like. As others have mentioned, the wind is one of the few downsides to living in Sin City. I grew up in the midwest, and I will take hot and breezy over humid, snow, tornados, etc any day of the week.

I really enjoyed my recent visit to the Las Vegas Area. I attended a wedding in the Mt.Charleston area and loved the scenery and the weather. The only bad thing about Vegas is the heat.

What I dont like about the wind, is in the summer with the combo of heat and wind it feels like you are standing next to an industrial hair dryer

Yeah. But most people spend their summer days in air-conditioned office buildings, so it isn't too much of a problem.

Summer eveings tend to be calm and cool...aboslutely beautiful. The icky conditions of daytime are long gone by the time people get home from work.

Weekends are another story, but one can always cool off in the pool.
