Well, the economy's down, so people can't travel as much....
Every industry is hurting.
Gaming is still one of the safer industries out there, though.

I'm wondering what's gonna happen.
After 9/11 tourism at theme parks and all fell. But as fuel prices went up (as well as airline tickets to go abroad and w/ new passport rules) many families stayed close to home and went to Disney and such.
But with gas at this level...even adults are having a difficult time to justify a trip to Vegas.
Had family going to come to visit this summer...and now airlines are going to charge for any luggage not carried on. Plus soda, too.
Who can come to Vegas for a week and not put something underneath!

Isn't it amazing? Reporting $524 million in profit and complaining because it is a little less then last year.
Waaaaa waaaaaaa waaaaaa. Cry me a river. Screw the casinos. They priced themselves right out of the #1 tourist distination. They could only get away with charging as much a mortgage payment to stay the night for so long. Now that we are in a recession they have to lower their prices. Or have they. I doubt it.

There are still plenty of rich people that will pay for those prices. I see tons of Asian tourists that like to spend money.

Their pricing is effectively automatic. It drops to whatever it takes to fill the house. The boys on the strip have been at this a long time.
I believe there are lots of great deals right now and, if the economy slows some more, there will be even better ones.

Exactly! I don't think they are necessarily "crying a river." I just think it's basic supply and demand: If the resorts/hotels/casinos want people to visit, they will adjust accordingly. So far, I think many have in terms of reduced room rates, general fees, etc..
Also, I think the poster before you forgets that the resorts/hotels/casinos are corporations with investors from all walks of life. When overall profits go down, so do the stock investment returns.

All they have to do is offer free gas and people will flock here. If the casino's were smart, they would buy all the gas stations on the strip and give away gas as long as the people stay at their hotels and gamble there.
