Hmmm...yes, running on actual roads would be a possibility, but it would have to be pretty early, to avoid the massses of people roaming the strip.

Hotel tredmills would be best bet. 14 people got hit by cars this weekend. If you use a crosswalk check EVERY lane before you cross. Most of the trails around here are probably not long enough for your marathon training. I would suggest Red Rock, I think the main roadway is about 13 miles around. Lots of water! and hope you are renting a car to go to Red Rock cause it is out of the city.

If you're not driving you'll probably just want to run the Strip. Early in the morning on the Strip you'll see lots of runners out. The Strip is roughly four miles long from the Sahara to the Tropicana, so it gives you a chance to measure how far, unless you just run for time. Not many tourists in the way in the AM. But as the man said, running toward the south end starting at Tropicana is probably the best bet. No pedestrians hardly at all down that way. Just noisy cars and exhaust fumes. If you have a car there are a lot of tracks in the parks that you can use. I used to run mostly in housing neighborhoods. I also ran in the middle of the day in the summer many times (maybe most of the time since I'm not an early person) with my dogs who were barefooted, and none of us complained.

The air will seem very thin compared to what you are used to and you might get choked up with dust. You will not need to run with water, but keep your mouth closed. I usually do not start coughing until I am finished with my run. If you run early in the morning you will have an easier time. It gets pretty hot, but you will find the air a lot easier to run through here than in Texas. I bet your time will be up. If you are staying in a hotel, they do offer treadmills, but if you are training for a marathon, you are probably off the treadmill.
If you are staying in Henderson, try the bike path just south of Windmill on Green Valley PKWY. You can run that east or west for several miles. I prefer the western route as it is a little more level.
If you tell me where you are staying, I can turn you on to some great routes.

I'm staying at the Sahara. You're right I don't want to use the treadmill because for one, I'm not very coordinated to run on a machine. I can run my little butt off on roads, but put me on a treadmill and I almost fall off....lol So any help would be appreciated. I use runningmap.com for a lot of my routes here in Texas, so I don't know if that will help me there. Thanks for the help. This is actually my first half marathon, so I really want to stay on schedule so I make it.

How far do make your training runs?
If you are at the Sahara, you might want to run east on Sahara Ave. then back again. You can go for miles, and you'd have a little bit of a gradual uphill on the way back. Or if you want to get away from car traffic, you could run in the neighborhoods to the northeast of the Sahara.
Map of [1-199] E Sahara Ave Las Vegas, NV by MapQuest[1-199]+E+Sahara+Ave:Las+Vegas:NV:89109:US:36.14355:-115.15605:street:/m:hyb:12:36.14355:-115.15605:0::/io:0:::::f:EN:M:/e
Try going east on either St. Louis or Oakey, or winding through the side streets off of those two main arteries. Give you a look at an older Las Vegas neighborhood where some of the homes are still pretty nice.

I ran the Turkey Trot 10K in November a few years ago. It was during a wind storm with 50mph gusts. It was probably one of the slowest 10K's I ever ran.
I will be in Vegas for 4th of July and plan on running the 5K at Bunker Park.
I can't help with running routes from Sahara as I always stay at The Orleans west of the strip. I run for miles west on Tropicana towards the mountains, then turn around and go back. I always carry some money in case I need to stop in a convenience store for water.
Good luck with your half marathon. It's my favorite distance to race.

No, I'm doing the half here in San Antonio. It's the Rock N' Roll Marathon. You've got me nervous about the Turkey Trot though. My next major run will probably be the Women's Nike Marathon.
