Moving to Las Vegas
I am moving to Las Vegas in a couple of 2 weeks for work. the restaurant where i work in New York city is openning a place in the Mirage Casino/Hotel.
what are some option on where to live? I would like to be close to where i am working because i will not be bringing my car from New York. I have heard that some areas are much better then others but since i have not been to Vegas yet i not surewhat the best options are? One of the place that i look at is: Oasis Bay 1601 E Katie Ave Las Vegas, NV 89119 _ is this a safe, easy access to work etc?
any advise

I personally do not like that area, but my Mother in Law and Father in Law lived at Oasis Bay for a couple of years, and then moved to a complex right next door that is now condos. She did not have any problems, but they did not really go out at night. The apartments there, I thought were kinda small.

thanks
I work in the service industry so i dont spend to much time out home. dont need a very big space. but want something that is nice. I do go out a lot and work weird hours - so very interested in felling safe. how hard is it to call and get a cab or car service back and forth to work?

If you're close to the strip, getting a cab shouldn't be a problem.
That said, there may be other areas nearby to consider. If you give your price range, maybe someone on here can give suggestions.

remember also that this ain't like NYC......cabs aren't as easy to call and car services dont exist.....when you get here, find a cab driver that works the times you'll be going out and develope a relationship with him/her so they will pick you up on a "Personal Call" [a good tip is what establishes the relationship] otherwise you'll be left hanging......

thanks for all the help everyone.
I would like to keep the price for rent under $1000 a month but would be willing to pay more for location and how nice the place is. Have been looking for one bedrooms and efficiencies but would consider a two bedroom and find a housemate down the road. i will be working at the mirage so any where around there would be best. would like a complex that has a pool and fitness center if possible.
anyone who knows the names of places that i could look into would be much appriciated!
thanks again

I'm not sure about areas right near the strip (I'll leave that to someone else).
But I know that there are lots of nice areas a few miles west down Tropicana. Lots of nice golf communities in the area, which means that the apartments tend to be nicer by association.
The commute from there to the strip is a breeze. And it should be in your price range.
Again, I'm not sure about other areas.

+1 on this suggestion. I used to live in Renaissance Villas on W. Tropicana. I assume rent has gone up, but a 1 bedroom was running around $650 a month when I moved out (6 years ago). Plus you will have very easy access to public transportation. The complex is maybe 1-1.5 miles off of the strip. Take the bus to the strip then take a bus from Trop to the Mirage, piece of cake.
