The OP backs his claim with a source and still gets rip lol, nevermind the fact that UNLV is about to do some SERIOUS cut backs and layoffs.

I think people are just annoyed because, quite frankly, the economy is bad EVERYWHERE.

The OP is leading people to believe that this is a Las Vegas problem. It is not. It's an America problem.

There are those who want to post negative things about Las Vegas and they do not even think about what they are posting is a positive for others. If someone is moving to Las Vegas from a State or city that has very high unemployment, its like "WOW! Vegas has low unemployment". Its kinda funny that they do not want to look at the United States as a whole. Who are they kidding?

Here's my take--I moved here in November and wasnt in any kind of rush to find work (had alot of money in the bank and wanted to take a few months off). I started looking for work in February and soon realized that there are jobs out there but which ones are you qualified for? My background is in financial services (20 years). Ive applied and applied for every banking job in the area twice over. Ive also applied for quite a few sales jobs with no real success.

Ive posted these facts recently but the Venetian/Palazzo with 200 job vacancies and 10,000 people applying for them? City of North Las Vegas with 2 accountant postings and 1800 people applying?? I went to AppleOne a month ago and have had zero phone calls from my rep there. I called her last week and she said its the worst she has ever seen--its an employers market and there is very little job growth out there. She said my background is too niche and no one wants to even talk to me.
Ive got a stable job history and have well over 250 resume's out with no luck..
I dont want to leave Vegas but feel there is no choice..Just last week I started posting my resume' to a number of bank positions in LA and San Diego and have been contacted by 3-4 of them (something that wasnt happening here whatsoever). Im interviewing next week and may very well be moving within a few weeks. Too bad too because I really do like Vegas but Ive got to work and I am not willing to stay here and make $35k a year when I can make 2-3 times that by moving to California.

I wish everyone luck who is looking for work or planning on moving here soon..It is a tough market out there right now if you are looking to make $50k+ per year or have a real niche background (as I do).

A customer of mine worked for Wells Fargo in Ca, and transfered here for a management job with a pay raise. I think it is all about your perticular situation. Making more money in CA is always a given, but you also are in a state that will milk you for everything you got.

On another note, seems like there is plenty of Medical/Dental jobs. I say, if you move here, have a job lined up first or have your employer transfer you.

You know it is funny in Vegas. We were there for 2 weeks and just returned home to NJ. There are people who found out we were moving and suddenly my cell phone was ringing off the hook.
I am a realtor in NJ but my background is in interior design and furniture in High Point NC. I was offered 3 jobs in 2 weeks. Great jobs too, but, I need the flexibility to go home to NC at least 4 times a year, so I had to turn them down and will stay in real estate. I realize I am in a unique position of not having to work full time, but I do know that if you have the right skills the jobs are there!
My parents are older and I don't want to be tied down to a 9-5 job. I could change my mind if the benefits and time off are right..LOL But for now that isnt an option. I am still getting calls as of today about working for the market, and if I can strike up the right deal, I will take it.
You have to have a niche, and I do have that, if I want it! So we shall see

I would wait to see what happens first, as most states are making cutbacks nowadays. Also keep in mind that UNLV is a STATE/PUBLIC institution, whereas the casinos/resorts/hotels are PRIVATE entities.
