Hi redwings fan! I know you have said that your children were born here. Can you give me the name of a good hospital to have a baby born at. I would really appreciate it. Thanks

Sure! I toured several labor and delivery floors before deciding where to have my kids. I ended up choosing Mountainview Hospital. My experience? Both times I was extremely pleased! I thought it was a great experience, wonderful nursing staff... I couldn't have asked for a better place. I have absolutely no complaints.

I have heard some bad stories about St. Rose Hospital from women I know that had their babies there. I have heard good things about the Summerlin Hospital. The worst one I toured? Valley Hospital - it was old and dumpy and smelled strongly of urine throughout the floor. I've heard decent stuff about Sunrise but my doctor didn't work out of that hospital. As far as UMC goes, I skipped it because it's a training type of hospital and very busy. But I've never heard anything bad about it. There is another hospital that was opening in the SW area of the valley, I don't know the name and haven't heard anyone's experience with it.

My recommendation would be Mountainview. If you need a good Ob/Gyn I highly recommend Dr. Susan Boyd at Las Vegas Ob/Gyn. She's my doctor, delivered both of my kids and is a very popular doctor. She's wonderful.

Best of luck, let me know if you have other questions - I'd be happy to help you out.

STAY AWAY FROM DESERT SPRINGS! Everyone I know that has went there has either died or came out sicker than they were before they went in.

thank you so much for the advice. Do you know anything about spring valley hospital? or southern hills? i know the new hospital that opened in the southwest, it is St. Rose--the San Martin Campus. But i'm a little scared now since you mentioned you heard bad stories from that branch. I'm not sure how far mountin view is from me. I live by Sierra Vista high school. I don't mind driving a little farther for better care though. Thank you!!!

Mountain View would be far from you since it is at Tenaya and Cheyenne.

Sorry, I don't really know much about Spring Valley or Southern Hills. I would suggest seeing what hospitals your doctor works out of and then tour them all. You will get a good idea on that tour by seeing the labor and delivery floor. Ask questions, ask how they handle security to make sure the infants aren't abducted, the chances of getting your own room, if your mate can stay the night, etc.

At Mountainview they made me feel comfortable on all those aspects. They were very thorough in their tour and provided all that info. And I love their food system for ordering meals. It's not like so many other hospitals. They give you a menu that is just like at a restaurant. You can order anything you want on it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. AND your partner gets to order one free meal per day. You can order steak, burgers, etcs. You just pick up the phone and call in the order and within an hour the tray arrives. It's so cool! But they have great nurses there as well, I really liked that hospital. You might be able to find something closer though, I would really tour the ones near you and see what type of feel you get. Even tour Mountainview and compare it to the others.

I had my daughter at St. Rose in Henderson and I thought every one was great. The nurses were nice and professional the room big and comfortable for myself and my husband. I have nothing bad to say about the place.

I also had a child at Valley, every one nice but not as nice as St. Rose.

I'd go Spring Valley Hospital. You'll get everything you demand for - just demand it. Managers and admins concentrate on patient care services. Having a good image and reputation is their primary goal. Thus equating to a less desirable working environment for staff.

I would just stick with Sunrise. If for some reason, something was wrong with the baby, it is one of the best children's hospitals. Stay away from any hospital in the Valley health care system. I had my first daughter there, and she passed away at 12 days. It was a nightmare, and had my father in law pass away at the same hospital. My family and myself have been to Sunrise, and had nothing but the best care there. Just make sure if for any reason there is something that does not seem right at any hospital, you get it checked out. Our first daughter had a heart condition that was not caught. With our second daughter, we made sure that she had an echo done on her heart, and the staff at Sunrise completely understood and were fine going the extra mile for us, because we explained what we had went through with our first daughter a year earlier.
