Tell me about it. I was looking into going to LA next month for one of my friends Baby Shower. Over $800.00 for my three year old daughter and I to go. Called and said, I would love to, but food is more important.

My daughter swears by the online travel agencies like Priceline, Travelocity, etc. She's always telling me about deals, and she takes the most exotic vacations I ever heard of. I find that if I call the airline or hotel direct, and well in advance, I get a much better deal. I think the travel agencies have to tack on their charges to make a profit.

I think $280 sounds pretty fantastic. I flew to Michigan (4tickets) last summer for a little under $1000. This year for 4 tickets at relatively the same time the tickets cost me $3200. That is on North West which is one of the only airlines that flies from Las Vegas to Traverse City. So I say take the $280 and run!!!

Rule number 1...never ever fly to Traverse City. You fly to Detroit. You fly to Chicago. You fly anywhere within 300 miles of your destination and drive from there. Go where SWA goes. Or the other cheap carriers. Look for the deals.
It can often cut the cost 50% or more.
We often fly double. We like Puerto Vallarta. But it always costs a bundle to fly to PV from Las Vegas. So we don't. We fly to Phoenix or LA on SWA and then take someone else roundtrip to PV. Takes a third off the cost alll up all in. We often set it up to lay over three or four hours in Los Angeles or Phoenix. The Admiral even has a ladies clothing store in Scottsdale that brings her back to the airport.
Be creative...saves a lot of money.

Umm, yeah, I was going to say. Fly into Traverse City? Never.
I was able to get round trip from DTW to LAS on Spirit for $300. That included the "Big Front Seat" on the red eye back. That was about 2 months ago.
Kyack and Travelocity dont search Southwest or Spirit.

You always have to search SWA by itself. From or to Las Vegas it will be the desired carrier most of the time.

yeah, yeah, yeah, I know.... but who really wants to drive 4+ hours after being on a plane for so long? We flew into Detroit and drove to Traverse City at Christmas time, swore we would NEVER do that again. I even looked into flying SW or Spirit to Detroit and taking NW to Traverse, no big savings there either. It's that flight to Traverse that kills you. So, we justify it by the fact that it is one of the most beautiful areas in the US and we get to stay there for free once we bite the bullet for the tickets My brother has a beautiful home right on the East Bay.
