You will not beat $280. It cost me $304 to go to Houston on Continental.

Last I flew to Newark I paid $360 with a ticket purchased over 30 days in advance. And that was before the gas price gouging price increase.

Cough it up on the airline and make it up on the casino. The casinos are hurting badly and are offering all kinds of deals. Dont gamble while you are here either. Save your money.
Great advice, desertsun. Oh, and thanks for agreeing with me.

For Giggles I went to Kayak.com and ran some numbers.

I picked these dates at Random, just that they are about a month in advance
Fri 1 Aug 2008 – Wed 6 Aug 2008
LAS to Grand Rapids, MI = lowest price = $341
A Flight I would actually take, lowest price = $481
Rental car for 5 days = $186

Total = $667

However, Much to my surprise, flying directly to Traverse City from LAS is only $481 on Northwest.

So ....

I guess I would fly to Traverse City Directly.
