Looking for insight:
Those of you looking for work in the Vegas area, what's it like for you? What is your field? Have you need looking long and is it hard?
Looking to get a feel of your market.
Thanks

I'm recent college grad, so I've only ever worked part time, but I never had a hard time finding part time gigs.

Little jobs seem to be plentiful.
Big jobs seem to be very scarce.
Entrepreneurial opportunities, though, abound. Las Vegas isn't really a place to come to be somebody else's employee - but as a place to start your own business it's quite good.

I agree that it's a good place for entrepreneurial opportunities. If you open a cafe, ice cream parlor, candy shop, doggie daycare, etc. the crowds will come running. There are tons of successful small businesses here.

What are your definitions of little and big jobs?
Thanks

Geez guys. Open a store? Just yesterday I took Charleston all the way home from Town Center to Nellis because there was yet another giant multi car pile up on 95.
I first wiggled my way down to Buffalo and Snoberlin PKWY because I was in the mood for a great big lunch. Where better then Baker Bros Deli. It was out of business. So back to Charleston and tried my 2nd choice. Schlotzksky's Deli. They were also out of busines even though they been there forever. Next to that a Winchells was boarded up and next to that was a brand name tire center also boarded up. Even an old Las Vegas pastime in Sleplers Western Wear which has had 3 locations since the beginning of time has closed forever. There are so many more but I wont bore ya.
You remember the song by The Animals where Eric Burdon sings: It's a tough world to get a break in, all the good things have been taken"? If you come here with a real skill there will always be a place for you and you will suceed. But if you buy one of those books in the front of Borders Book Store titled "100 businesses you can start for $1000 or less" there is nothing in that book that everyone else has not already tried over and over and over again.
Look, we are in a deep recession. People are cutting back on luxuries which is why I spend more time on here myself. I sell a luxury. No one needs what I sell during hard times but when things were good I was on top of the world. I personally cut out Starbucks and Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. That is a luxury too.
There are many service type small businesses one can start up on a small budget but I can assure you there are hundreds of others already doing it.

Why don't you tell us what you are looking for and maybe we can advise you on that.

i disagree, it never seems like anyone supports the small businesses here, which is why most of them go out of business all the time...

Ok, currently I am in Colorado Springs and we are looking to move. Our job market is bare here. I have administrative, legal and customer service experience. Over 12 years combined. I have found that many people here are struggling to find work because there aren't many opportunities, so I was wondering how it was going in your neck of the woods. I was curious if anyone there, majority or minority of people, were struggling this badly as well.
Thanks

Little jobs = hourly wage.
Big jobs = salaried.
A casino valet would be the high end of the little job hierarchy - he might make 100K a year in tips is he's lucky, but he's still an hourly employee with a little job that has a small scope. He'll be doing the exact same thing every day...forever. Las Vegas offers plenty of jobs like this.
An accountant might start out at 40K salary but can progress to become a CPA, supervise a department full of junior accountants, and make much more than 100K over the long term, so he is in a big job with a larger scope. Las Vegas is short on jobs like this.
Entrepreneurial opportunities don't necessarily mean retail stores - of which there are far too many already. Las Vegas is a good place to locate an Internet-based business due to the tax and incorporation laws, for example.
