Myself and my wife just recently got jobs in Summerlin. We currently reside in Virginia and we are planning the big move. Can anyone tell us about the Summerlin area? Is it good or bad? Are there other areas that are close by Summerlin that we should consider? We would like to rent a single family home to start out, anywhere from $1100 to $1400. We also have 4 elementary age girls. We will be in Vegas on July 16th to secure housing and wanted to narrow down a few good areas. Thank You

Summerlin is a very nice place to live. We have been here for a little over a year and I can tell I am very happy with it. The schools here are nice. In my personal opinion, the best schools in Summerlin are Staton, Givens and Lummis. But some people are equally happy with Richard Bryan, Ober and Bonner. There is one more but for the life of me I can't remember it. If public schools aren't for you there are many private schools in the area, but they do cost quite a bit and I couldn't imagine how much it would be to send 4 kids all at once!! Summerlin is a very large area on the far west side of town, running from the Southwest to the lower Northwest. Here is the official website of Summerlin:Summerlin Las Vegas - Summerlin Homes
It will give you a small peak into the master-planned community. The Craigslist link above just gives you an idea on some rental homes in the area. I'm sure there are other places to look too.
There are plenty of parks, trails, pools, shopping, restaurants and things to do for families in the immediate area. Summerlin offers many community events for the family through out the year and offers many classes at their community centers. Some are a very good deal. My boys take a Kung-fu class that only costs $65 a piece for 13 weeks of classes. Try beating that anywhere.

Summerlin is probably the best area of the valley, although Green Valley is definitely up there too.

i and my girlfriend just moved to the summerlin area. our 3 bed/2.5 bath/2car garage townhome is $1300/month. coming from la, where our 1 bedroom apartment was $1100/month, we think its a steal. not sure what the prices are in virginia and how they'll compare.

in any event, as noted earlier, you can get a good feel for prices on craigslist. it seemed to me that when i was looking (just a few months ago), a 3-4 bedroom/2-3 bath house was around your price range (1100-1500).

so far, summerlin has been good, people are friendly, there's not too much traffic. feels very laid back and easy going!

im in 89131, so im not in summerlin but i do know that the view of the strip at night is amazing in summerlin.. can remember where though, i think it was a concert hall or something like mac

The view is good if you live on the west side of Summerlin where the elevation is high. The east side of Summerlin is lower in elevation, and sometimes doesn't have a view.
