And no matter what, drug use is still against the law. He was positive, why wait for him to be convicted. To me positive is positive, which ever way you look at it.

The drug test is mandatory. I wrecked my car on an icy road in Wyoming and hit a barn. I was required to take a toxicology test because I was a trooper. Mine came back clean tho. Cops like this do give the rest of us a bad name and tarnish our image with the public, an image cops like me fight to maintain. I agree he should be severely punished because he of all people should know better. He swore an oath to protect the people and yet he put the people at risk because of his carelessness.

I am just a little bit sceptical about how thing whole thing happened. I would wait to see how much THC was in his blood at the time of testing. If it is a trace, I would be sceptical that this was the cause of the accident. I am not tring to defend this guy, he still shouldn't have been smoking the stuff and if he really is a diabetic, we still have to find this out. I was listening to a radio show this morning and a doctor was saying that his THC level would have to be very high in order for him to black out or to have the same symptoms as a diabetic episode.
Otherwise he is still a bad example of a Nevada State Trooper.

Yep it is sad. The news always makes such a big things over the bad things cops do, but unfortunately they just do a few minutes on one show for the good things.
But if he tested positive, is there not a moral clause in your employment contract that he would automatically be fired even if he was not found guilty?

yeah...IMO to early to pick a side on this at this point. too many unanswered questions: hx of diabetes? thc levels...or thc at all for that matter (any word if it was thc or secondary metabolites?)
and i am w/ AA on this...not trying to defend the dude. just trying not to jump to any conclusions and vilify him for something that wasn't the case (such as in the william's case mentioned by aqua, i think). in the end, being a trooper, the THC/metabolites in his system will screw him....but if that wasn't the cause of the crash, it shouldn't be an issue in the case (aside from the whole cops and illegal substances thing....which opens up another can of worms depending on peoples stance's on pot in general)
in the end, though, some one is dead and hopefully justice will be served appropriately.

Doesn't anyone else believe that since his job is to enforce the law that if he breaks them he should get double the normal sentence?
This open season on citizens is really getting ugly out there. I believe in my heart he will get off the charge like all the rest of his kind do. But if not there is a nice comfy special little prison just for cops who break the very silly little laws they jamb down our throats.
I read that other trooper who killed those 4 people doing 122 MPH is getting out for good behavior. Whats it been like 2 months? Damn that makes me sick.
