Default Crime down - and the Sheriff missed it.

According to John Smith at the RJ

**************
Murder and non-negligent manslaughter from January to June 2008: down 33 percent from the same time the past year.

• Auto theft: down 35 percent.

• Burglary: down 9 percent.

• Crime overall: down 15 percent.

*********************

ReviewJournal.com - News - JOHN L. SMITH: Sheriff credits the force: More officers on the street means less crime

Sheriff likes to keep us all up to date so we know he will be pleased by this one..

Good to see this...with the current housing crisis, hopefully some of them got put out of their houses and moved back to whence they came....

Don't be so hard on our resident Sheriff. You know he only sees the glass half empty and will only report stories of a negatory nature. I'm pretty sure this won't make him see things differently...

But it is certainly nice to read that crime is down a bit...

You need to get clue in that Las Vegas ranks no worse than any other city its size as far as crime goes...

YOU need to expand your horizons a bit beyond the gigantic soup bowl..

Above national averages? By these tiny percentages that are listed?

And this study was done...when?

Data Source:
2003 FBI Report of Offenses Known to Law Enforcement

C'mon Sheriff, you can do better than that!!!

once again w/ a inaccurate/misleading post.

1st: what major city isn't above the national average w/r to most crime? i looked at SF, LA, denver, chicago, ABQ, PHX, boston, NYC....all above the national average in nearly all categories (of course they are....they are metropolitan areas...that is where the crime concentrates...'cause they are bad? no...because that is where the people are )

2nd: you need to look closer at things before you boldly proclaim EVERY...LV is below the national average for Theft/Larsony and for Arson. most other cities i looked at also only had one or more category below national average.

3rd: look at the numbers....LV ranks below many of the above mentioned cities in most categories according to the comparison against the national average...take LA for example: LA is 2.13 x the average for all violent crimes; in comparison, LV is only 1.29

LV is a city...it has crime. all cities do. why is that so hard to understand?

and find a different insult, man. "get a clue" is so 5th grade.

But of course. That is what Sheriff is there for.

It was done that way as he would inevitably jump all over any thread on good news on Vegas Crime. So why not get it out in front as it is inevitable?

Note that such an improvement would place Las Vegas Metro at the mid point for cities above 500,000. Probably won't do that well as cities tend to improve together. So we will probably still be a little above the middle.
