Why is living in Vegas so bad?
The reason I ask this is because I hear from my cousin, that there really isn't a point of living there.. not that Im moving there but Im just wondering why. Is it the heat, jobs that really can't be found.. what? I wanna know why Vegas is a bad place to live. I'd appreciate a response! Thank you.

Its all lies. If it was that bad, a mass exodus of 2 million people would flood Los Angeles

Well that mass exodus did the reverse. They all came here from LA, most since abandoned their homes and now are making another exodus to who knows where.
Hey Im being sarcastic. I wouldn't answer that guys question with a 10' poll. But I can hear the closet doors opening and the sound of the swords, guns, grenades and other defensive weapons of the great defenders who guard this site with their balls and their blood being pulled for war.
I cant wait to see the battles that will insue.
Anyhoo...to the OP. Just read back all the posts. I think everything has already been said and argued over and over.

From Patton Oswalt's Recent Controversial Commencement Speech
Quote:
...he told me about The Five Environments.
He leans forward, near the end of the dinner, and he says to me, “There are Five Environments you can live in on this planet. There’s The City. The Desert. The Mountains. The Plains. And The Beach.
You can live in combinations of them. Maybe a city in the desert, or in the mountains by the ocean. Or you could choose just one. Out in the plains somewhere, perhaps.
“But you need to get out there and travel, and figure out where you thrive.
“Some places you’ll go to and you’ll feel yourself wither. Your brain will fog up, your body won’t respond to your thoughts and desires, and you’ll feel sad and angry.
“You need to find out which of the Five Environments are yours. If you belong by the ocean, then the mountains will ruin you. If you’re suited for the blue solitude of the plains, then the city will be a tight, roaring prison cell that’ll eat you alive.
He was right. I’ve traveled and tested his theory and he was absolutely right. There are Five Environments. If you find the right combination, or the perfect singularity, your life will click…into…place. You will click into place.

This is why I hated being in the supposedly beautiful, tropical South Florida. I'm a desert guy. I'm a city guy. This place works for me. Maybe your cousin needs to discover what type of person he is instead of complaining about it.

OK - Here we go.
Las Vegas is a modern Southwestern City. It is neither better nor worse than its brethren.
It is hot but generally dry. Today for example was 107 or 108 but very comfortable. When I had a swim a half hour ago it was 97 and actually a little cool. Many prefer it, as I do, to the hot wet climate of Houston, Dallas or Atlanta.
It is low taxed and low serviced. If you need the government to help out it is probably not the right place for you.
It is blue collar. It does not have high tech industry. It has a very large population of middle class blue collar workers. They are adequately paid but seldom get rich.
The education system is reasonably good for a large city school system. The component vary from excellent to awful. But at their worse are much better than the bottom of most of the rust built school systems. It has an adequate University...but just. No Nobel winners are likely.
Traffic is very nice by big city standards. If you come from Podunk, OH it is probably a bit much. But compared to say Phoenix or LA or Chicago it is wonderful.
The people are standard people. Neither better or worse than back wherever.
Crime is in the middle of the pack for a major American City. The suburban bedroom communities such as Henderson and Summerlin are like the suburban bedroom communities elsewhere. There are pockets that are relatively nasty. There are none that compare to the bad areas of the eastern cities or Los Angeles.
The job situation fluctuates with the economy. It is hard at the moment to find a reasonable job. But it is probably less hard here than in most cities. Piece of cake compared to say Michigan or even Los Angeles.
The streets however are not paved with gold and you can struggle and lose here...and Las Vegas does not care. Probably better at not caring than most places, do mostly to the fact that it is a relatively common event.
So come and enjoy or don't. Nobody in Vegas will care either way.

Hey that's pretty good. I dont completely agree with everything but that's a nice fair deal. I suggest you save this post because we will see this same question many more times. You can count on it.

Ole Capt already has that saved as a macro.
Sheriff will show up within three to five posts with sketchy data that "proves" that Vegas is the armpit of the universe.
Fortunately, not all defenders of the board have balls. It'd be too much of a sausage fest if they did.
Personally there are things I like about Vegas, and things I miss about the SF Bay Area. Mostly, I miss the fog rolling in over the Marin headlands. I also miss hot air balloons in the morning.

True. I also often saw the big colorful balloons in the Snoberlin area. Many of those balloons were Olecaps enemy......ReMax balloons.
We were able to see close up with binoculars from our upstairs balcony looking east. I always wanted to do that. There is a company that takes you up in those balloons on the side street between Texas Station and the Fiesta if that is the correct name. Right across the street from the old DMV. Carry I think is the street.
