I heard the Trump is dying to get people to stay at the hotel. The rates are comparable to Venetian.

The thing that bothered me was when I called to make a reservation I asked for a Deluxe room with a balcony and a view of the strip...I was told that they cannot gaurentee any of that and I would have to find out upon check-in if anything like that was available. Huh? What the hell is the reservation for then? Is this standard practice for Casino Hotels? To me that doesn't make any sense. If I get there and the room sucks, I'm stuck with it...I doubt I can get another Hotel on that day for 11 days at the same or near price.

Yes, unfortunately that is standard practice at the hotel properties here in Vegas.
Making the reservation only guarantees you a room at the property, not the type.
The best you can do is make your requests the time the reservation is made so that the front desk is aware of your preferences. This way they can try an accommodate your requests to the best of their ability upon check-in.
One way to increase your chances of getting the room you want is to get there as early or as close to check-in time as possible.
If you come by late in the evening, they may have fewer rooms since many people come early in the day. Getting there late may run you the risk of taking whatever rooms may still be vacant and of course their inventory is going to become more limited as the day progresses.
I think the reason they cannot guarantee rooms is because due to unpredictable events ie: people lengthening their stays, possible issues with rooms....they just want you to know that they will try their hardest but it may not be possible.
Believe me, the hotels want to make their guests very happy and have a wonderful time when you stay with them.
After all...they want to see you come back!

Yes, the Trump, not the Trop. The Trop is just dying.

Not in Chicago it isn't...I stay in downtown Chicago frequently every year and they can confirm the exact room number for me If I request it. I have a few hotels there that I do this with depending on why I am there and where I will be going...I have had them tell me that the room I requested was not available, but never have I been told to wait and see when I check in.

I guess I'll just have to cross my fingers....maybe try the $20 trick....and hope for the best. I just thought that with a person staying 11 days that they would have tried a little harder...and maybe they will when I get there.

That reminds me of a story...

Before I moved here, back when they were building the Luxor, I found out about it and reserved a room for the 2nd weekend they were open. I made the reservation six months in advance. When we checked in, the room we got was at ground (read: casino) level, about 40 feet away from a lounge. Sleep? Forget it. Between the sound of the machines in the casino and the bad acts playing in the lounge at 3am, we hardly got any sleep at all. One of the most expensive rooms I've gotten in LV provided me with one of the worst experiences.

thats surprising, because even when we stay in santa monica or philadelphia, its the same thing, and i don't even find it an issue and they are warning you anyway that it is not a guarantee, it is their choice not to guarantee it to you...anyways, 99% of the time you get what you want and if not you can always take your business elsewhere...

You're lucky......our hotel does not rent to vampires.....

Yes that is common practice.....reasoning is simple actually....
IF they preassigned a room and
The person in that room the previous night won or lost a million or so and wanted to stay over to either give it back or chase it....we would not throw them out.....and you're outta luck.....so rooms are assigned at check in based upon the availability.....
Most hotels do run a list of all arrivals for the day and TRY to assign rooms based upon the requests....but not guaranteed.....

for the best evaluation of Las Vegas hotels go to Tripadvisor dot com.....read thru ALL of the reviews....some are just sour grapes because they lost money.

Who cares about the room, anyway....you don't plan to sleep in LV, do you????

PS, if you want a unique, modern (chique) and reasonably priced room that'a a little fun, with a good strip location...spring for the "GO" room at The Flamingo. Well worth the price.
