But I can assume a place like Vegas; as Miami...does need some careful planning beforehand simply because....I mean its always wise to have a backup supply available, but not all the time is that possible

If anything the article made me lose some interest in Vegas.
A bit of an oxymoron, wouldn't you say?

All jokes aside, that list came about for a reason. If you search through these forums you will find MANY folks that moved here on a whim thinking that they would make it big or even make it. As with anyplace, without a game plan you really have nothing. The transient nature of this town is a direct result of peoples unrealistic expectations, similar to Hollywood in nature but not as extreme. As such we do no. Then of course we must defend our city on these forums from the poor saps that were "suckered" into moving here by the Vegas image. That being said, if that little piece of verbiage caused you to lose interest in Las Vegas then maybe this is not the place for you. Those bullet points are very important and very accurate though. Especially regarding jobs and local numbers, with the exception of very high value positions that have a limited workforce. Dreams of coming out here to tend bar with no job, no money, and no place to stay lined up and make $6000 a month quickly shatter.

I'm not counting on "making it big" or winning a jackpot, I'm just looking to re-locate. I do have a cosmetology license here in CA, and will probably have to go to school out there for a little time to take the State Board Test out there. But, I can see where people think about just moving and making it big, in reality the only thing that usually works is hard work. I do like the idea of a fast moving town though, I live here in Pasadena CA. and the rents here are high. My girlfriend and I were looking at trying to buy a house/condo/townhome but are starting to realize that we can't afford anything big enough. My thoughts are after moving and living there for a couple years we will be able to start looking for a place out there. Sorry if I'm rambling.

Absolutely no problem with that. If you have a solid plan in place and your expectations are realistic then you should have no more problem relocating here than anywhere else.

FTR, I moved here in 1993 and I actually had no plan in place, no money, no job lined up, but did have a place to stay (for a bit). Back then it was a different town though. That just won't fly anymore. I know what you mean about rents in SoCal. Born and raised, lived all over from Temecula in the IE to Fullerton off of the 57 and 91, to the Balboa Peninsula. My mom's place in Fullerton was a tiny one bedroom, maybe 500 sq ft, and she was paying well over $1000 a month for it, and this was in 1990.

Yeah, we're currently paying $1350. for a 2 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath for Pasadena that's a real good deal. My girlfriend has some family that lives there. They work at the Luxor and another casino (I can't remember which one) doing housekeeping. It looks like we'll come up and stay with them a few times and scout for work and apartments, I wouldn't mind starting off at the low end of the totem pole at a casino but I hear that's not the easiest job to get. Maybe her family can put in a word LOL. Do they have many Supercuts type hair salons out there? Thanks.

I have a couple more questions if someone could answer: 1) What is the best way to get a job? (I know you've heard that WAY too many times) should I come out there for a couple days mid-week and look then repeat until I find something? Or should I just focus on the Internet Job Search. I've read so many negative comments on the job situation that I'm not sure what route too take. I do administrative assistant type work but also have a cosmetology license in CA, and am looking into getting a license there. I live in CA so I'm not sure what the best way to go about it is. Or should I save up 3-6 mos. worth of money and move there then look?
