I haven't heard a lot of this far east of Las Vegas. Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Got distracted by ole lexie...
There are very nice neighborhoods in both zips. There are also bad ones.
Check the percentage of renters. In general avoid blocks that are more than 25% renters. Do the pickup test. Stand in the middle of the street and rotate. See more than 10 pickups be cautious.
Some very nice houses and neighborhoods but be cautious.

Thank you olecapt this is very useful information. I live in New York now so getting out there to see these areas personally are tough at the moment but when I do get out there I will definitely take your advice and continue to do my research but this is a great start!

That shouldn't stop anyone from moving of course. But there's no "safe" area in Vegas as you'll see on the LVMPD website.
If I were you I'd live ON the strip bc atleast there will be a lot of tourists and stuff so it may be a lot harder for people to harm you but then again get this statistic
7 people were murdered within the last 60 days within a one mile radius of Circus Circus. My source? Lvmpd website.
By school do you mean UNLV? check out the 1 mile radius of crimes around UNLV. You Will Be Floored.

With all due respect you don't even live out here. People ask these questions of locals because we have firsthand experience. There are plenty of safe areas out here and unless you are a tourist I can't see why you would want to stay on the strip, particularly for any extended length of time. You think that tourists will protect you from crime? If you were a strong arm, would you target locals who have the time and energy to file police reports as well as the fact that they may or may not be carrying money, or would you hit a tourist that very likely has a wad of cash and will likely not be able to stay out here for months to try and pursue the matter?
Again, take a look at any of the suburban areas in a horseshoe area around the south towards the west and northwest. Very safe suburban areas with very little crime. Nothing ghetto about these areas at all. Of course the area around Sky is ghetto. Naked City is one of the most notorious areas in Vegas.

yeh, i would say that 89142 would be a better area, but 89122 would have the better commute

you can do olecapt's pickup test with maps.google.com in most areas. Just grab the little yellow man and put him on the street, or do the street view.

I'm from New Orleans and talking about "ghetto" or "projects" I think we take the cake. As well as crime in the south. New Orleans had the highest murder rate than any other city in the U.S.

Ignore lexusman's comments all together and you will be fine... He doesn't live here and is a spoiled rich college kid who hasnt worked a day in his life and has the illusion of living in a million dollar flat overlooking the strip so he can bring his girls that he met at the strip clubs to.. whew! nuff said.. most of here, have him on "ignore". Check his posts if you want a good laugh and see who he truly is (if he even exists... i myself believe he is 13 and lives in Oklahoma)

I'm finally here, actually I arrived Oct '08, and moved into a house west of 15 and north of Craig just like some other members have mentioned. And, I have to admit it; I love it here. It's not a bad area at all. Remember, as pointed out to me, stay west of the 15 & north of Craig, its nice.
