Is it true peoples social security number is actually on the Nevada drivers license?
If it is, doesn't that seem a little weird?

In this day and age of identity theft, I can't see ANY state using your SS# on your driver's license....

Man airics....that's unbelievable! Lose your driver's license and someone else can get your SS#.
I'm surprised your state only just changed it...I would have been making such a stink about it.

Myself as well. Several years ago Colorado made it optional to put the ss# on the license after people raised so much hell. Finally they had the sense to do away with it altogether.

It's Ohio.
Nevada gave you the option of having it on your DL for a while, but I don't think they'll do it now. For a while they had a formula to create the DL# from your SSA#, but it didn't take long for the secret to get out, so that you could figure out what someone's SSA# was. I used to do it all the time. Not sure what the code is now but it doesn't give away your SSA# anymore.

To use SS #s on NV drivers licenses now would violate state law since they are now considered confidential information and placing them on the DL is publicly disclosing the information. They can still require the number for their records (asa long as it is properly protected in their systems) but they cannot display them on licenses.
NRS 239B.030 – Confidentiality of Social Security Numbers
NRS 239B.030 prohibits a person from including and a governmental agency from requiring a person to include a social security number on any document that is filed or otherwise submitted on or after January 1, 2007, unless it is required pursuant to specific state or federal law, for the administration of a public program or for an application for a federal or state grant.
Additionally, governmental agencies may only disclose a social security number as required:
(a) To carry out a specific state or federal law; or
(b) For the administration of a public program or an application for a federal or state grant.
The following steps will be taken by the City to comply with this statutory requirement.
1. Provide our customers with notification of the new law pursuant to NRS 239B.030(3).
2. Develop and implement on or before January 1, 2017 procedures to ensure that any social security number contained in a document filed or submitted prior to January 1, 2007 which is still held in the City’s records are maintained in a confidential manner or are obliterated or otherwise removed from the documents.
3. Only disclose the social security number of a person as required by law to:
A.) carry out a state or federal law; or
B.) for administration of a public program or an application for a federal or state grant.
