Default Moving To Vegas

Hi,

I am close to taking a job in Vegas and I am only being paid $65,000 per year. I want to live in a nice area, perhaps buy a foreclosure with a pool and hope I can find one for 250 in the Summerlin or Henderson area. Do they have distressed homes in this range in those areas. I am thinking minimum 1900 sq ft. Our children are grown so schools are unimportant. We are thinking we should rent for 30 days and are there unfurnished units at a reasonable rate? For info:

We like to visit the strip or want to at least once per month perhaps see a show? Travel to nearby CA once in awhile.

Concerned about utility costs; is there enough water in the area; property taxes; and any other cost we are not thinking of.

Where can I find photos of foreclosed houses.

Is it possible to live ok in Vegas for this salary. I am coming from Tx where it is feasible. Just concerned if I should ask for more money because I want to make certain this salary is high enough for a decent quality of life.

Would appreciate advice.

$65,000 is well above the median household income in Las Vegas. So you are better off than more than half the population. That generally works out well.

You will not get 1900SF with pool in Summerlin or similar Henderson for $250,000. Under 300K but not that low. You can however easily find a nice home of that size with pool in the NW or SW. Where you buy might well be set by where you work.

If you rent it would be best to go furnished. It is not feasible to rent unfurnished for 30 days and you would pay to move twice. It is nice to check it out thirty days but costs a good bit.

Utilities will run 200 to 300 per month. Taxes are about 1% of the home value per annum...about 1/3 of TX. water is not a problem though it may be in 25 years. Even then it will restrict further growth rather than hit the existing population.

The strip shows often have specials for locals though they are never cheap. We hit it a couple of times a year. Mostly with guests.

CA is 4 and 1/2 hours away and an easy drive. Just be careful not to get caught in the Friday rush to Vegas or the Sunday rush to CA. Then it takes 9 hours.

If you would like to see some pictures drop me a DM and I will send them to you.
