Dracula is on a distinguished road
I read somewhere that they took those "Use of Deadly Force" signs down and replaced them with signs that said you could be "detained and/or arrested".

Not unless they did it in the last 11 months - I took this pic last October.

Probably just one, and they mix in a few people for flavor that were shot trying to get into Area 51.

The U2 program started Area 51 and everything surrounding that particular airplane was classified top secret for over 40 years. I'm sure they are still testing secret aircraft at "Watertown", and who knows what is there today. Look at this story about the plane that crashed on Mt. Charleston in 1955 killing some of the men working on the second U2.

Silent Heroes of the Cold War National Memorial - Home Page

I'm on the committee and have met many of the families of these men. It was a tragic thing that the families didn't know what happened to their loved ones for over 40 years. Most people don't realize how important the U2 program was and still is. And few know how many lost their lives anonymously in the Cold War.

Of course you can't get near Area 51, but the Nevada Test Site tour is well worth the effort. And let me tell you, those security guards up there look like extras in a Sylvester Stallone movie.

Drive your kid up to Rachel, NV, or better yet, take him to the Test Site if you can get a tour, and show him what it looks like out there in the desert. Nobody thinks you are nuts, but the UFOs that were reported in that area are now declassified stealth airplanes. If you go to the Test Site (Mercury, NV) you will pass by Indian Springs. That is where they run fly the Predator unmanned aircraft. Last time I was up there we saw one of them flying near the highway on the way up and later in the day on the way back. He might get a kick out of that. Also there is a Metro radio transmitter on top of what I've always called Sheep Mountain, but I believe is really Gass Peak. But that doesn't mean they aren't doing test flights at night up that way from Area 51.

Yes they would really shoot someone, but if it has happened it will never be known to the public. It may be urbane legend, but supposedly people have gone there and were never heard from again. There have been some very public occurances where they stopped people from getting too close, but it was usually known in advance that a group was going to try it and the news weenies were there. There was a military pilot that ended his career by landing there in an emergency. He was "detained" for a while I understand. I've spoken to pilots and CIA types who worked there and even though it was in the 50's and what they worked on has been declassified, they still won't tell you much.
