Yeah, it is hard when you have not worked, but some people do understand the taking care of family part. I know when I was hiring, I never looked bad on that, because it happens. We all do have the luxury of hiring someone to take care of our family members. Hope things look up. We are all praying for you.

I had a friend that told the bank to take his house like a year ago, and they have not done anything with it still. He has since moved out of the house, but it still sits there. We have had houses in our neighborhood that were foreclosed on, but do not know how far behind the people were. They sat for a couple of months, but people have moved into them with in 3 months of the other people moving out. I am not sure, but it may depend on the bank.

Good Luck!

I hear you. I haven't worked FT in over 2 years. I quit my job to go to school, which was a 2 yr commitment and supposed to have started this fall. I had to take 2 classes before that and then this transfer came up so...here I am. I did work a couple PT jobs but...yeah those don't seem to count and I actually get embarrassed filling out apps.

Adam,
What about a caretaker kind of job..where you help take care of someone or be a companion in exchange for room and board and a salary? of course you have to make sure they accept your doggies.

I heard foreclosures take between 4-6 months to actually boot out the people, so hopefully you have some more leeway. Now if you could take in a roommate or two, get a part time job to start and make enough to pay the mortgage and the bills, you could stay put.
Check out the Fresh and Easy store in your area. They are hiring, and they do not discriminate. They also hire older workers, like seniors. (not that you are of course, you are way too young. )And they have a good compensation package that comes with the job. It can't hurt to check it out. Good luck dude.

This is very good advice. My mom works at Whole Foods, which may be another option depending on which part of the valley you move to, and her pay and benefit package is excellent. She is grossing about $40K a year, full insurance, employer matched 401K, stock options, sick leave, etc.

Good Haunted Houses!!! My roommates and I are spending our first Halloween in Las Vegas and we are looking for a good haunted house. We know about Fright Dome and that Monster Mayhem place on the south side, both of which are too expensive for us. We are thinking about either The Asylum (in Boca Park) or one of the three Freakling Bros. attractions ($11 a ticket) but they aren't open very late this week, and our jobs are making it difficult to find a night to go there. Plus, we walked up to The Asylum earlier tonight and didn't end up going in because they don't take credit or debit, and the place looked a little...unimpressive. Anybody know of other haunted houses in the area that are really cool, scary, and not more than like $15?

Thanks for the suggestions, Pink, but I could only do that for my mom. No roomies, I wouldn't trust them with my iggies. A GF or wife, maybe, but I'd have to train her first.

In order to have a better chance on getting a job, I have to trim my beard back to a mustache. Sigh...I'm going to miss my beard. I'll post a pre-Halloween picture here, but I'm not libel for any blindness or insanity.

I'll check out those grocery jobs, but they don't thrill me. I had some serious abdominal surgery done back in 2000, so bending over and picking things up isn't really that great for me. I'm looking along the lines of a PBX Operator.

The Asylum in Boca Park is worth the $11 admission, IMO. Went there two weeks ago with some friends. As far as haunted houses go, it was one of the better ones that I have been to. I believe the same group is doing one or two other attactions in town, one of them is a haunted casino, I think?

I think they are only open till 10 or 11 though. There's also some haunted bridge attraction at the New York New York casino. Don't know price or anything though.

VEGAS JOB CULTURE QUESTION!! I need Advice please!!

LOVE my job HATE the pay! lol

I moved across the country with no job. I know, I know TRY to hold all of the "wrong move" comments. lol I found a job after looking for.... 4-6 weeks. Well I actually was offered other jobs but none of them were wages I could live off of so I turned them all down. Anyways I found my current job at the point when I found it I HAD to take it because my savings was dangerously low. I own a home where I moved from and rented it out 3 months before I moved (hired a property manager and all). Well the property manager must have been relatives with the tenants she found because they paid rent when they felt like it and she never seemed too concerned about it when I'd call and ask what was going on. Long story short I had to fire her she refused to hand over any info regarding the tenants and I now have to sue her AND evict the tenants all from across the country PLUS pay the mortgage!!! That's a whole different drawn out story!! I said all that to explain why I HAD to take the job I did.

Okay... back to the point of the post (sorry lol). I really like the job. I like what I do and I like the people I work with. My boss is amazing and the atmosphere is very relaxed and it's just a great company. However the pay leaves a LOT to be desired!! At my pay I won't be able to accept the healthcare when they offer it to me because I can't afford to have what it costs taken out of my check. My review is coming up and I already know there won't be a pay increase (it was stated in the offer letter). With it being the end of the year the company is trying to get the books together for the year’s business. However I'm not positive that doesn't mean I couldn't get a raise in the future. I am looking for another job and I feel kind of guilty because everyone here is so wonderful but... you can't pay the bills with that.lol I don't want to tell my boss I'm looking because I don't want them to let me go before I find something but I also don't want to just give my 2 weeks notice because we all get along so great. I feel like it will be like a slap in their face. My boss just forced me to order a ton of business cards. loll He told me to order them and I mentioned that I hadn't had my 60 day review yet and he told me to order a box. I kind of dragged my feet and then like a week later he asked if I received my business cards yet. Soooo I kind of had to put the order in. lol

I'm torn because the people are so great but I know ultimately I can't pay my bills with "great feelings" so I have to do what I have to do.

What would you do?

Have any of your other interviews gone well for you? (didn't you go on a few recently, or was that someone else?)

Ya know, you have to do what you need to do to survive. If you can't get an increase, then you have to start looking because you need to survive and it would really be nice to have insurance.

What are you doing there? Is it something you can easily find elsewhere making a bit more with maybe more opportunity for increases? Is there promotional opportunity at this job?

You can either sit and struggle or move on. Or could you get a second PT job somewhere to help?
