Default Vegas vs. Laughlin

I'm just looking for a home base in southern Nevada since I'll be traveling in an RV most of the time so my main concern is low tax rates. I want to buy a cheap lot and put up a house. I know the price of real estate is high in town but I'm wondering if cheap land can be found within 10-20 miles. No interest in gambling or similar types of "entertainment". I see Laughlin has lower crime rates so I'm wondering if it's a better alternative than Vegas. Reno is another option I'm considering.

Laughlin is a lot more than 20 miles. It is not particularly cheap. Try Pahrump. Or Overton. Reno is much more expensive than Vegas.

Laughlin is a LONG drive from Vegas. I've done the drive 130mph (don't tell the Highway Patrol) and it still took a long time. It's hotter than Vegas and there's nothing to do there....or should I say nothing there. Vegas is definitely the lesser of 2 evils.

We moved here for basically the same reason. We RV several months out of the year. We are back and forth between Las Vegas and Branson MO. The only thing you don't have here as far as taxes are income taxes. We wouldn't make that decision based soley on taxes again. Land is very expensive in/around most cities in Nevada now (of course that is relative depending on the "where" you coming from). If you send me a private email I can share with you what we have learned about NV and some of the compartive things we've found in our research.

We too live in Missouri part of the year only at Lake of the Ozarks. We are considering a move to Laughlin and are interested in your experiences. Please let us hear from you. Our email is r-lgreen@charter.net

Thank you

I agree with olecapt. Look at Pahrump. It's also much less expensive to register an RV in Nye County. Don't look anywhere in Clark County if you're talking about "inexpensive" ...that includes Laughlin or Overton.
