Geese, I wonder why? It is a known fact that 60% of people who live here are on drugs, we have the gangs and the outlaws, and beggars. Not to mention the drunken a55holes!

In my experience people seem to have no morals, no values, they care more about their Mercedes and their plastic looks rather then helping someone in need. The people discriminate, and the Gov. is pretty corrupt. The Major is disgusting he is always partying and running around with the show girls!

We lived in the Philadelphia suburbs for 23 years before we moved here. We also moved here after visiting. I hate the Strip and rarely go there, we never gamble, because we work hard for our money.

Hahahahah, you should have seen us trying to order a Philly Cheese Steak in this GOD FORSAKEN HELL HOLE, right after we moved! What kind of idiots, do not know what that is? Maybe my expectations were too high.

I don’t regret moving because it was an experience, it has made us stronger, but it has aged us as well. We were also victims of predator lending. We now own a beautiful condo where out of 280 units only 17 are owned the rest are rented out buy the builder. We are basically living in an apartment complex now, the sales office is a leasing office, I am angry and bitter and nothing will change that! I try to let go of the anger but I can not. This was our first home purchase. It ought to be against the law what the builder did to us. The Law here is jacked! Living in a apartment complex where we own a condo unit? What do you think that does to our equity? It is bull @$%# that is what it is! We have no rights forget the CCNRS. We will never purchase a condo ever again. Another lesson learned.

We are packed in like sardines, too close for comfort. Homes have no land you will not have property or peace and quiet, and the associations own you. The apartments are Ghettoish to me, by my standards. Not what I am use to. We didn’t do our research well before we left PA.

We were communicating with the apartment community we chose from PA and they knew when we were arriving here at least two months, in advanced. They knew two weeks in advanced, a day in advanced and two hours in advanced yet when we got here and went in the office to pick up our keys and sign the lease, the property manager was drunk seriously, drunk, and we had all of our stuff with us furniture, cars, my parents and a cat etc. We had no where to stay because at that moment they were changing out the carpet in one apartment and cleaning the carpet in the other. They were not ready for us. We had no choice but to go to another apartment complex and they took $6000 from us in security deposit why? Because we didn’t have a job lined up here. That was our mistake and we paid for that. We ended up moving 4 times before we moved in our own Condo, which was a night mare from the beginning to present.

Finding a job? It was hard before the economy sunk now it will be pretty impossible. Make sure you have money, for at least 6 months, or a job prior to moving.

My mother had 16 years experience in the medical field and it took her two years to be hired by a Hospital. Now she has a great job and I can not ask to uproot her again, so it is difficult to think of leaving my elder parents here and moving. They are glad that at least they do not have to worry about snow.

I don’t believe in the quality of life in Vegas. It is not a place for raising children that is for sure, I do not have children and thank God because I wouldn't raise them here, no way! I have a few friends with children and they are unhappy here as well they are looking to move to take their children out of Vegas before they hit school age.

Once you are here it will be tough to go of course because you just made a long distance trip and you will have to recuperate and regroup and have the money to do it all over again. It is a decision you have to give a lot of thought. We didn’t. We had no one to tell us of their experiences. Experiences are many and unfortunately for us they are mostly bad.

I was laid off of work three weeks ago due to the economic crisis, my husbands work is slow and we are in a short sale. Homes are still over priced and the salaries are not on the same level with the cost of living they are below cost of living. In August there were 22,000 homes under foreclosure, and I am not sure how high it is now. So you are the judge of how Vegas sounds?

I need to have a home on an acre of land at least some where else some where, were we can have peace and quiet. We are looking at somewhere were the cost of living is lower and salaries higher. So far we came up with a posibility in Texas.

We are in search of a better place to live. We are doing our research now. Since we have been here we have experienced nothing but stress and heart ache. This is not the place for us. We have never been this unhappy. This is what we have been through in a nut shell. We can not wait to get out of Vegas. Hope this information has helped you. I wish you luck.
Please re-read your post. I have highlighted your judgmental areas for you. I feel sorry for you!

I moved here in late Sept ,after two trips out here my wife and I loved it. I got a union job right away due to my resume. We just purchased a home in Henderson for a great price. No complaints yet but it is still early. Traffic is no where near as bad as L.A,gas prices are as low as 2.25 a gallon. As for rude people you will find them every where as well as gangs.I make a great deal of money as a union carpenter times are tight for work out here but if you are good you will stay working. You can lose your job any where. Dont let others discourage you decision follow you instincts and stay positive and you will do just fine. But I do agree try to line up employment before you get here. Other than that good luck....

Default Northwest....

We are a family of four, 2 daughters ages 13 and 16....the northwest area of town is good for being in Las Vegas. We have raised our daughters here. Granted, Las Vegas is know to be at the absolute bottom of the barrel for education, the northwest has some half way decent public schools. There is a very high concentration of Mormons. You will be happy to have your child take up friendships with a Mormon. They have excellent family values..... We wish we could move elsewhere as for the obvious reasons that people don't want to move here. The heat in the summer is awful. Kids are like bats and go out to ride bikes only when the sun goes down. Hopefully you get a pool to cool down......Hope this helps

Thank you very much!!

We moved here in June 2006 from Michigan. My husband and I were both fortunate enough to have jobs lined up before we arrived. In my opinion, this is a must before moving anywhere especially in today's economy.

We are raising our three daughters here, 14, 12 and 6. I am a very involved parent and take the extra time to know what is going on with my children. I would do this NO MATTER where we lived.

Just recently my oldest, who is a freshman, wanted to go to the movies on a Saturday night at Red Rock Casino with a group of friends. The parent who volunteered to drive was going to drop them off and return later to pick them up. This was not acceptable to me. As I explained to my daughter, the theater is located inside a casino (not complaining, just a fact), if anyone wanted to grab her she could be gone and inside any one of 500+ hotel rooms and we would never find her. My solution, I drove her to the movie, watched the movie, (sitting no where near her and her friends) and drove her home afterwards.

In Michigan, I would have probably dropped her off and picked her up afterwards.

As long as you are up to the challenge of raising your 5 year old and doing the work that involves then it truly does not matter where you live.

As far as people here being on drugs and rude etc. all I can say is that I personally don't know of anyone in my day to day life that does drugs. As far as rude people, well, we had those in Michigan as well.

If you are thinking of moving to Las Vegas because you think it will solve all your problems then you really should think again. Moving here has been a great decision for our family. Has it been without challenges and disappointments? Heck No! But, overall, good with bad, it was what was in our families best interest and remains the case today.

Texas? You are kidding us right? Now there are a couple of places in Texas that ain't bad...but overall...well it is better than Louisiana.

The schools of Summerlin and Henderson hold there own perfectly well with the schools of the nice suburbs of the big TX cities. And with those of the rest of the country. Like most big city school systems CCSD is weak at the bottom not the top. Still better though than most big city school systems.

So don't display your own ignorance. Head back on down where you can be happy with ole Billybob and his buddies.

We just moved here from Alaska and love it so far. I was worried about big city attitudes but almost everyone I've met has been really friendly and helpful (with the exception of a couple of public school office employees). Maybe because I haven't been on the strip, I've missed the greed aspect (although as a professional mechanic, I see it with the used car scene, but that's going to be anywhere). Even the traffic isn't that bad--the freeway system is well set-up (if you're from Alaska, at least) and you can get just about anywhere in 30 minutes (although I haven't tried that during rush hour, when I wisely stay off the roads). I rented a house in zip code 89183, a very nice neighborhood, for a lot less than the going rate and without a lease, so we can move out if we find something we want to buy. You can find similar deals if you are patient. While we searched for a house, we stayed in the Sienna Suites, free internet, 326 a week for a ground floor and 280 for 2nd and 3rd. (another 100 if you want a 2 bedroom). One couple complained of calling the cops, but we had the end unit on building 12, very isolated, and had no trouble--I'd suggest asking for a quiet location instead of letting them assign you a room, if this is the route you take. I tried finding a extended stay in the northwest, but almost all of the places were located in north and east Vegas. I also spent a lot of time trying to find houses to rent; feel free to email me when you get here for my impressions and suggestions. I spend a lot of time on the road, furnishing our house through craigslist, as well as looking at cars to buy, and occasionally run across some interesting places. Good luck, we are really happy here!

I can relate to your situation after living near Neosho for 10 years. You probably feel as if your wheels are spinning but you're not going anywhere. Well, a simple move may break that routine depending on your decision. As for the PRO's, it is always sunny and just about everything you want to do is within an easy drive. As for the CON's, work is difficult to find regardless of where you go; however, unemployment is higher here than most. Not that it is impossible, but the competition is heavy. Many employers have too many applicants and resumes to view. The drivers are ridiculous compared to Springfield and crime rate is considerably higher depending on your area. The school system has some of the lowest test scores in the country, and it shows is some of the younger generations. Depending on your reasons for moving, it may or may not be a good idea....really just depends on why you like it here so much.
