Teacher Relocating to Vegas - What area to live?
Hi I'm a 31 year old teacher looking to possibly move from CT to Vegas. What areas would you recommend to buy a home? I'm looking at newer townhouses or small single family homes in the 150-160K range. I've looked at Summerlin (not much bang for your buck but very nice), Northwest, and Henderson. Where do you recommend? Oh and I'd ideally like to live very close to where I would end up teaching. Thanks!

First ya gotta know where that will be.....how long a commute is allowed [by you]...THEN you look for housing and realize that no matter where you work, there is a GOOD neighborhood within 20 minutes......welcome to Las Vegas.....we need teachers.

So you are seeking residence suggestions near where you end up teaching, but are only looking to possible move . . should be more than enough information for those with telepathic powers! Pretty obvious you have NOT taken the initiative to review previous forum contributions!

also you are not going to find a house in summerlin for 150, it will be hard to find anything that doesnt need work for that kind of money... you will be looking at bank owned for sure.

Thanks I can sense the sarcasm. My point is I'd like to live near GOOD schools in the burbs. Obviously you missed that. I guess Vegas really does need good teachers...
So Summerlin might be too pricey for me. Are there specific nice neighborhoods in NW to check out? And how far from the Strip are they generally?

you'd like to live near good schools, but how do you know you will be teaching in them? The district doesn't assign you based on where you live, but their needs...

Well that's interesting information. If I don't have any choice as to what schools I can teach at than that would affect my decision. So they can place me anywhere they want? I figured with 9 years experience in excellent school districts in VA and CT, I would at least have some say.
