I have always been interested in the Showboat because I used to watch both pro wrestling and boxing from the sports pavilion.
I know Showboat was renamed Castaways in 2000. And I know the building was demolished in 2006, but that was before I ever went to Las Vegas. I read that Station Casinos bought it and demolished it and were trying to sell the land.
Has there been any development on the land? I know there are a few projects that started in the 2000's and came to a halt because of economical issues, but since I am not 100% certain on the locale of where Showboat was, I don't know if this is one of the spots that was being built on?

"By 2009, however, no progress had been made, and Station, itself on the verge of bankruptcy, put the lot up for sale for $39.5 million"

I actually read that before I posted here. I was just wondering if there had been any sort of development since then.

It is gaming entitled which means it has almost no chance of being developed into anything but a casino. To keep it entitled they bring in a trailer with a handful of slots once every two years and allow people to come play if they want. I believe it has to be operational for 12 hours. Usually they get almost no action, but it's a legal requirement to keep the license alive. Since no more lots in the valley can be added as gaming sites without a difficult approval process it will always be worth many times more than just land value. So you pretty much will hear about it if it gets developed again.

Thanks for the explanation Willy702, I didn't know that about the requirements or the limit to gaming sites.

They did this several months aqo at the former Moulin Rouge property on Bonanza. A trailer was opened with a few video poker machines inside, and they allowed people to play for a few hours. If I'm not mistaken, the same thing happens once every two years at the old Pioneer on Fremont Street, which is now a gift shop.

Unhappy was a Showboat employee

I worked at the Officers Slot Club and the High stakes bingo tournaments from 1990 to 1999. I was a great place to work till 1999 when really creepy upper management took it over.

I worked there in slots from 1990 to 1995. I left after the summer temp layoff when the new roof was built over the pit and cage area. A lot of fond times working at the boat at that time.
