Interesting thread! I've known a few dealers when I lived in Vegas.. none made fantastic money, they made "decent" money. They made it on tips, not what they were paid by hour.... They stand there, flip cards, chips come and go, they put in their time and they go home. They aren't doing anything THAT spectacular. I look at the 25.00 an hr thing and can't help but laugh at that. They aren't living in Nevada. That money considered low pay? Nah.

But, someone who has a 'hard' and 'stressful' job that requires constant mental alertness or that generates alot of $ for the employer, $25 an hr ain't nothing!

If mininum wage would've kept up with inflation, it would be around $15 an hr now. Just cause the 'American dream' is slipping away on a daily basis, doesn't mean you have to 'settle' for it and be 'nieve'.

How much does it cost to rent a decent apt? Or buy a decent house? Plus the taxes and bills that go along with it? Or what about a car? The maintenence and gas, etc.

There was a time in America, when the woman could stay home and raise the kids. How many can do that now?

It cost $8.50 for a pack of cigs in NYC. A bottle of Corana in a bar will be $7 bucs (I'm talking outer boroughs, Mannhattan is more). How about $12 bucs for a movie ticket, etc. $25 an hr in NYC, and you have to have a roomate! Unless you want to spent EVERY dime on rent and food and NEVER save a dime (if you could EVEN qualify for an apt with that salary).

The reason for this 'housing crisis', MOST people could've NEVER even got into them homes if it wasn't for those sub-prime interest rates. Cause making 50 grand a yr in MOST major cities in America ain't enough to buy a house. Now the interest rates 'creep up', and they don't have ANYTHING extra left over cause 50 grand AIN'T nothing in 2008'!

You can tell me til your blue in the face. I know what things cost and the quality of life someone will have making that kind of money. Rural America, ya it's still a decent buc. But in rural America, how many jobs pay that? You have to move to the BIG and EXPENSIVE cities to make that kind of money (unless you have a good education).
i'm with welder on this. i'm floored that some see $25 hr as a great salary, its NOT. its only $50k a year, take taxes out and you're looking at $3K a month....if you're single and are flipping burgers sure its a great salary, but not for a family of 3,4,5....with that salary and a family youre living paycheck to paycheck. and i know millions live like that, but that doesnt mean its right. minimum salary has been kept stagnant for years and that is why wages of $25 hr are seen as high, but $50k is a mediocre salary

Sorry guys but you have a misconception of wages in the US.

The median wage for a full time male in Nevada is 43K. That is close to the US Average. Female is 34K which is also on the US average. Family income in NV is about 63K.

50K or more is the upper third of US male wage owners.

Does not work on the urban coasts but does everywhere else.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not interested in becoming a dealer at this time, maybe later, and was more interested in finding out the general ranges for the specific jobs I inquired about.

Yourbasicmom, thanks especially for your input. You suggested definitely going for the slot floor ambassador job. Do you have any idea what the pay range for that would be starting out, including tips (full-time)? I do not have any casino experience at all, but heavy on customer service experience in general.

Thanks again.

"Work everwhere else"? Really? And by "work", you REALLY mean 'get by'. Can you survive on 50 grand, of course you can. But don't and try and tell me that it's a GREAT buc. I don't care if only 5% of Americans only made more than that, 50 grand only buys what it buys, PERIOD!

That is based on standard of living. Yours is apparently reasonably high. But the vast majority of Americans make less than 50K. And most of those live happily if not richly.

It is not "great". But it is at least "adequate"

50k is more than enough in my opinion, however, i'll have to keep the Escalade in the garage and drive the Corolla.

50k is pretty good. Most people don't make 50k...at least the people I know. $10-$12 an hour is good compared to where I am. I live just outside Cleveland and the pay here is not all that good. Not like when I lived in NH. But it all depends on the cost of living in the area.

Are you trying to say that 24 grand a yr in Vegas is good? People, listen up, for a cashier at Wal-Mart maybe, but not for someone who is skilled or educated. I work union construction, and Cleveland scale is pretty good for the cost of living there. So, I don't know what jobs you're talking about.
