Just wondering about the general protocol here--

If you are at one of the bars here that just have the gaming on the bars and you are having some drinks, playing a little poker and when you cash out, you owe nothing, what is the proper amount to tip?

I mean you don't know how much your tab is so how would you figure at least a starting amount?

Hmmmm.... good question. That can be awkward, but I usually just tip one or two bucks a per drink, but if I sat there and had 3 drinks for free, I usully leave 5 or 6 bucks I guess. Usually, just the same you would tip as if you were paying for them. Now if you hit a flush or did very well, you should tip very well too.

Good question.

Usually I always tip the waitress for drinks. I figure a $1 for a drink is a bargain.

But the dealers, I don't like to tip them EVERY time I win, as the rake is so high already. At the Orleans, I got reprimanded by some little ol' regular lady who noticed I wasn't tipping the dealer everytime I won a pot.

I was kinda irritated that she would say that, as I love Poker, and it has its ups and downs, and the rakes are so high that the longer you sit, they WILL get your winnings based on rakes anyways, I don't want to just 'give more away' everytime I am able to win a hand to the dealer!

The waiter/waitress, I feel obligated to ALWAYS tip though.

At the Bars when I am eating Dinner and playing Video poker, I usually tip my normal 20% on the tab. More if I actually win, but I am there to eat, not to play video poker.

BlackJack is my game and i am a regular at Sunset and Green Valley. I don't ever tip unless a dealer is leaving the table and i really like them, or I did really well, then i always tip when i am done. 10% off of my winnings usually goes to the dealer. Win $100, tip 10. Win $500, tip $50.

I also tip when I make a mistake in my play and the dealer catches me (are you sure you want to hit 14 against a 6?) or when I am being an *******.

Same thing though, if the dealer is an *******, no tip for you....

I always make sure to tip, even if I lose, again, usually around $10 -15 depending on how long i have been at a table.

I can see at a casino. Or if you have a waitress, it is easy to keep track, but when you are sitting at the bar and they are just slinging them to you, it is easier to lose track-especially if I am "in the zone" on a machine!

Last week, I was playing poker on a machine, my husband was not gambling. They had a great band and we were there for a couple hours. When we left, they said we owed nothing because I was playing (and I didn't win anything ). So, I was unsure what to give and really they didn't have to comp my husband's drink, did they? We left $10. and I just feel that is chintzy. It is still bugging me a week later.

I wouldn't let the tipping thing bug me. I never play the machines at the bar, and usually just bring my own bottled water with me. That way, I am beholden to nobody.

Another thing - I tip the cocktail waitresses VERY well at the Station casinos where I am a regular. Cocktail service SUCKS at green Valley, but at Sunset its awesome. I dont drink booze at all and i always tip $2 for whatever non-alcoholic drink I am ordering. I NEVER have to wait for a refill, usually I have a drink before i even sit down at the table. And the Free Coffee sucks, so at Sunset at least their girls will go and get me Starbucks. Thats worth $10 to me.
