If your going to do realestate in Las Vegas, you should think about getting in with a brokerage that is strictly internet. If you haven't heard we are #1 in foreclosures and it's not just folks walking away from mortgages that shouldn't have gotten them , we have a 12.3 % unemployment so that tells you locals can't afford to move or they have to move.
So by getting in with a broker that deals with the internet you will find buyers either in other states or countries that have money and recognize the great deals out here and have the means to purchase.
Or get on a REO team or because that is also where you can make money. Don't come here until you interview with some brokers and do some home work on your own what is going on out here. Vegas has roughly 17,000 licenced realtors and 12,000 are active.
Good luck

Mountain's Edge is also a nice community in southwest Las Vegas. You acclimate to the heat, and if you have allergies in one place, you'll have them in others - just to different things.

Welcome to the club. I'm from Boston too. I will be here in August and look around. Thinking the 89129 area. Can anyone tell me is the area safe and how they compare to Summerlin and Henderson area.

Well I live in 89129 as does Buzz. In general it is a very nice place. As you get into the higher density areas it acts like, well higher density areas, It is still reasonable nice.
I will give specific views anywhere in 89129 but you have to name an intersection nearby. Place is actually pretty variable.
Hell just heard the other day that a local guy was doing drug deals on the quietest block known to man...Surrounded by LDS...so who knows?

Just try to find a safe place to live. It sound like Mountains Edge(89178) or Green Valley(89052) is safer. Does anybody have any other suggestion?

Please...where are you getting your information.
Green Valley is not in 89052.
89052,89178,89129 and 89012 (where GV is) are all safe. There are areas in each less safe than areas in the other three.
If you want the best you must be older than 55 and move to Sun City Summerlin in 89134.
