How much is too much for an apartment?
I'm going to be at student at UNLV in the Spring and I am getting a single room. It's a brand new apartment and it's in a gated community. It's $1000. Is that too much?

I think it would depend on the area. If it's in a bad part of town, paying $1000 would be too much.
Is it a single room apt for $1000? To me that would be too much for no space. Even sharing a place for that is too much to me. You can get your own apt for $1000.

I think that is too much. But then, I don't know what your budget is. Maybe that amount sounds reasonable to you. I think that would get you a very nice one bedroom apartment in a very nice area.

I moved to Vegas at the end of August and needed to find an apartment very close to work since I wouldn't have a car. I had some friends visit a bunch of complexes for me while I was still back East and ended up taking a place in Cabana Club Apartment ( www.cabanaclubapts.com) on Paradise and Warm Springs. The apartments are newly renovated, very nice and spacious, plenty of storage room, too. For a 1 bedroom, they are 875 a month and it's 975 for a 2 bedroom. If this isn't too far from UNLV for you, you should consider checking them out, I'm very happy with my decision to live there.

Are any/all utilities included? If you get all + internet cable etc. That might be an OK deal. Otherwise, sounds like too much. One of my friends who is a grad student at UNLV got a place on D.I. and Mojave that is 1 BR w/ internet and some utilities included for <$800.

Well for me I do not need a Summerlin or Green Valley type of place so after about a year of looking up places and doing the math,$825 is my target and $850 is my limit(until rents go up).But if there are decent places for about 785,815 I'll look into.Use apartmentratings.com and forrent.com in your searches. It really helps if you can't be in the Vegas Valley area.

There is a new place opening up near the University catering to Students... Smart Student Living - Place Properties - Student Apartments off campus student housing. Might be a great affordable place to live with other students and have some resources close at hand. Its under construction now, but I believe they are accepting applications.

Find a condo or apartment further south near Trop. Make your commute easy and the neighborhood would be the same or even a little better. There are places on both Trop and Desert Inn that will work.

lexusman, the area around Desert Shadows is older, more established. Lots of traffic. The floor plans on those apts look nice.
Olecapt is right, try going down to Tropicana or Desert Inn. Lots of nice apts there.
